This role will involve repairing motor vehicles (HGVs), Specialist Fire Service modules and equipment in a safe and efficient manner using your technical skills and knowledge. Following training and familiarisation this role will primarily be home / field based, with travel around the Midlands region, with occasions of working from the workshop site in Leicestershire.

Our Mobile Maintenance Unit look after the "Rescue" part of Fire & Rescue services from high volume pumping, floods, Urban Search and Rescue (collapsed buildings) and DIM Vehicles (white powder jobs).

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who can work proactively, managing their own diaries in an importance of task order. You will have a CLASS 2/CAT C driving licence and you'll need experience in vehicle engineering with a mechanical background. You'll be able to work under pressure, actively want to seek out solutions to problems and be self-motivated.

What will you be doing?

• Carry out day-to-day servicing, maintenance and repair of FRS vehicles, equipment, components and accessories including removal and refitting in a safe, proper and economical manner.
• Testing and diagnosing faults using recognised test procedures and techniques. Including road testing where deemed necessary. To drive in a manner within the parameters of the law.
• To observe, recognise and report on defects and/or symptoms of impending failure. Correct completion of relevant paperwork and ensuring unfair wear and tear items are reported on the system for recharge.
• Operate a "Fix first Time" approach to working ensuring quality of work is to the highest standard and meets/exceeds all inspection criteria laid down.
• To maintain equipment to the appropriate standards in accordance with Health and Safety, Manufacturer's specifications and in accordance with Fire Service Inspection and Testing of Equipment legislation.
• Ensure that equipment and tools are kept in a clean and in a safe condition for use at all times. Report any shortages or damaged/faulty equipment to your line manager.

The experience you'll bring

• Vehicle Engineering Experience
• Flexibility to undertake a wide range of tasks
• Experience in repair and testing of hydraulic systems
• An understanding of Health & Safety Legislation along with knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO14001
• Knowledge of HGV/LGV technical specifications and maintenance requirements
• Servicing and repair to MOT standard of HGVs/LGVs minimum NVQ level 3
• Full UK Class 2/CAT C driving licence
