Housing Support Worker

We have an opportunity available for a Housing Support Worker (Mental Health) to join us based in London. You will join us on a part time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive rate of £9.40 per hour and some great employee benefits. Please note, the Housing Support Worker role requires a significant amount of lone working so you must be comfortable with this.

Servol Community Services is a charity providing person-centred support to adults affected by and recovering from mental health conditions in London. We have been established for over 40 years and proudly support people in accommodation that meets their support needs, including residential 24 hour staffed services, semi-supported accommodation and supporting individuals living in their own homes in the community. Key duties and responsibilities of our Housing Support Worker include:

• Provide housing related support to service users to enable them to maintain their tenancies and achieve their aspirations for independent living
• Encourage the individual to live as fully and independently as possible within the local community, providing information, emotional, organisational and practical support as possible
• Liaise with other housing, health and social care professionals, benefits, welfare and advocacy agencies and other landlords as appropriate
• Participate in assessment and selection of tenants ensuring that good practice and equality of opportunity is adhered to
• Keep accurate and timely records of all meetings and actions to ensure a professional and seamless service to service users
• Whilst at the service be fully responsible for the health, safety and appropriate use of the building, including timely reporting of any accidents or near-misses
• Report, order and inspect day to day repairs and estate maintenance.

Skills and experience required to become our Housing Support Worker:

• NVQ/QCF/BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification (or similar subject)
• Intermediate IT skills which must include Outlook, Word and Excel
• Relevant experience of supporting adults who have experienced mental health issues in a residential or day care setting
• Relevant work experience and working knowledge of housing benefit claims, management and housing/accommodation support available for vulnerable adults
• Effective and clear written communication skills in report writing, risk assessments and form completion
• A good working knowledge and understanding of procedures for the protection of vulnerable adults
• Able to demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude to working with people experiencing mental health conditions.
