Your opportunity

The Project Management Centre of Excellence (PM CoE) is a key function that provides project management support for our audit and assurance practice. We're seeking an Assistant Project Manager to work on internal projects. You may also be required to support on client facing project if the business need arises.

It is an exciting time to join the PM CoE as we have ambitious growth plans to support our audit and assurance practise with specialist project management. We foster continuous improvement and you will have the opportunity to contribute to our existing project management offering across audit and assurance as we aim to standardise our methodologies and practises.

As a project manager within the centre you will automatically become part of our North South Europe Project Manager Community where we will knowledge share, problem solve and provide continuous professional development opportunities which we recognise is of significant importance to our project managers. You will also support and develop those on a project management career pathway.

By becoming an integral part of this group, you will be working to deliver high quality work in a typically agile manner for the audit and assurance practice.

Your role
Your role will be integral to the audit and assurance practice - the pivotal role in coordinating project delivery. The role will involve working on and owning one of our core less complex projects or working as part of a team on a more complex project and will include a mix of responsibilities depending on the 'point in time' needs of the project.

Key responsibilities:

  • Using project planning templates and guidance to support the team with the planning of the project, developing a project scope and agreeing deliverables
  • Managing, monitoring and coordinating the project from planning through to completion and debrief; applying the principles of agile methodology throughout
  • Lead the project debrief meeting: Guiding the team through the agenda points; capturing successes, challenges and solutions; logging actions in the debrief action tracker
  • Establishing meeting and communication governance structure, setting agendas and coordinating the implementation of this
  • Action tracking: Allocating deadlines and responsible people, and chasing completion
  • Collating, logging and tracking project risks and issues, regularly highlighting these to the senior stakeholders. You may be required to monitor the risk mitigation plan
  • Coordinating the document review process. This involves working with the team and using the project plan to build a document review timeline and schedule, coordinating the implementation of this
  • Acting as a liaison between the central teams to manage expectations and deliverables
  • Coordinating all parties to deliver an on time, cohesive experience
  • Engaging with senior stakeholders across the project
  • Where applicable be responsible for preparing reports to enable the project manager to track project costs as well as project resource tracking
  • Working collaboratively with the Deloitte project managers to support the successful delivery of the project
  • Responsibility for oversight of any project support associates allocated to your project
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing

Location: Cardiff (post covid). Occasional travel to meet the project team (usually London based).

Permanent: Full time: 37.5 hours per week

Your professional experience

  • Project management experience
  • If you have a professional qualification such as PRINCE2, APMP, PMP, Agile, Scrum, this is great but not essential
  • Proven ability of delivering initiatives on time, on schedule with the required level of quality
  • Experience of developing project plans
  • Experience of monitoring and tracking risks, issues and dependencies in a project environment
  • Ability to think critically and apply appropriate levels of challenge to plans, risks, issues and dependencies
  • Excellent time management, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and competing demands
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and team playing skills
  • Very driven and proactive
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Microsoft Project and Visio skills would be desirable but are not essential
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring would be desirable but is not essential
