Your role

The team you will be working in is responsible for the direction, development and support of Deloitte's Global Audit Analytics platform, a platform supporting thousands of users and clients. The team is currently undergoing expansion and is looking for a junior developer with the appetite to learn and a flair for problem solving. The technology is largely based around a cloud-hosted data lake, and a set of large Microsoft SQL 201 6 servers, which hold thousands of databases relating to different clients but with exactly the same data schema. There are also a number of .NET services and a web front end which support execution of analytics, and user interaction respectively.

In the first 6 months the objectives of the successful candidate will be to:

• Build a solid technical foundation via training, self-study, and on the job experience.
• Learn and apply our coding standards to everything you build.
• Become confident discussing technical matters with your team leader, providing regular updates on the status of your work, and proactively seeking support where required.
• Develop a working knowledge of the client data used in the platform, and how it is used.
• Assist the more experienced team members with design, build and debugging activities.
• Gain a basic understanding of accounting concepts in order to better understand the overall purpose of your work supporting our audit teams.

In the longer term, you will be expected to develop a deep understanding of our technologies, whilst also broadening your skill base to include requirements gathering, quality assurance, and report building. Although not a client facing role, you will be working in an agile environment alongside a number of skilled developers, so there is always plenty to do and a lot of variety in the subject matters being covered.

Location: St Albans based role

Work pattern: This is a permanent contract opportunity. The role can be worked on a full-time basis.

Your professional experience

The candidates for this role will need to demonstrate:

• An interest in programming or data analytics - for example through previous work experience, or a recent college or personal project.
• A strong aptitude for logical thinking and problem solving
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including vlookups and Pivot Tables)
• A basic awareness of relational databases
• Good working knowledge of basic statistics (mean, standard deviation etc…)

Any exposure to the following would also be a positive, but is not required:

• T-SQL Scripting
• Qlikview or Tableau
• Trifacta, SSIS, or Informatica
• Existing understanding of basic accounting concepts
