Derby College Students' Union exists to enhance student life at Derby College. The Students' Union is responsible for the Student Representative System, Clubs and Societies, fundraising for charity, organising external trips and visits and providing guidance and support where needed.
The Students' Union have a building at our Broomfield Hall campus which has a common room (with pool tables, seating and games), an office for the Students' Union staff, volunteers and officers and a shop selling confectionary, sweets, drinks and many stationary items.
You will be a keen, personable and dedicated individual with a positive can-do attitude and able to contribute to a vibrant and thriving student community.
You should be organised with a commitment to working effectively as part of a team and on your own. You will be responsible for the daily operation of the Students' Union retail outlet, with a focus to expanding our offering to all campuses.
You will need to undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities including:
- The daily and weekly cash reconciliation
- Ordering of stock
- Stock taking
- Sourcing alternative products and offers for students
- Daily housekeeping of the shop and building
- Organising and training of volunteer staff members
- Providing activities for students at Broomfield Hall
Although our retail shop will make up the majority of our commercial sales you will also be responsible for promotion of the Totum Card (aka. Student Discount Card), any trips and external visits and any other commercial opportunities that may arise.
As part of a small team you will also occasionally need to support Students' Union activities on other campuses and some evening and weekend work maybe required.
Although not essential, as training will be provided, knowledge of the following IT platforms would be desirable
- Excel (Spreadsheets)
- Xero (Accounting platform)
- Word / PowerPoint / Canva.com (for producing advertising materials)
- SharePoint & Teams (for communication to students)
Knowledge of e-commerce platforms would also be beneficial in order to expand our retail opportunities across the Derby College Group.
Experience of working in an educational institution, in particular Further Education and/or a Students' Union would be a distinct advantage as would any knowledge of the National Union of Students (NUS) and NUS Services Limited and any First Aid, Manual Handling and Basic Food Hygiene training.
This role involves travel and a full driving licence and your own transport are essential.
