Perm: Main Contractor

Location: Dundee

Salary: £40,000-£45,000 + £6,000 car allowance

Your New Employer:


A forward-thinking and long-standing Main Contractor typically delivering projects up to the value of £25m, predominantly across the residential and commercial sectors. The business is anticipating a further growth in turnover over the next 12 months and as such require a Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a permanent basis.


Your New Role:


The primary function of the Quantity Surveyors' role is to handle 3-4 post contract contracts from a commercial perspective, in addition they would be involved in pre-construction commercial input from compiling cost plans and cost parameters which are procured on a Design and Build basis. Dependant on pre-construction activities the number of contracts on site would have to be restricted if/where required to accommodate workload ability.

You will be responsible for undertaking the entire quantity surveying function on specifically allocated post-contract construction projects.


As a Quantity Surveyor reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for advising on contract conditions and commercial matters and maintaining accurate financial control systems including, but not limited to:


•Assisting when required with the post-contract financial and design management / development on design and build projects.

•Maximising return on projects by ensuring complete financial recovery from the Employer, and by negotiating and agreeing advantageous margins from key subcontractors.

•Minimising the business' exposure to financial risk on all projects, encompassing both main contracts and subcontracts.

•Negotiating favourable subcontract terms at procurement stage and maximising financial return at conclusion / final stage.

•Avoiding / minimising and resolving contractual disputes whenever practicable and assisting specialists with their resolution if / when they become formal.

•Assisting when tasked with the formulation of competitive tenders and attending tender review meetings and imparting appropriate comment and / or advice.



The successful candidate will possess:


•Degree in Quantity Surveying.

•Demonstrable experience working for another Main Contractor.

•IT proficient with Microsoft Packages, including Microsoft Excel.
