We are looking for a Trade Compliance Analyst to support the business with the increase in volume of import and export transactions following Brexit. Whilst experience in trade compliance and customs matters is preferred, it is not essential as full and comprehensive training of our processes will be provided by our experienced team. You will also work closely with other areas of the business including Legal & Compliance, Operations, Commercial and Purchasing teams.

The role sits within the Tax, Customs & Trade Compliance Team, which is responsible for day-to-day compliance and external reporting obligations and are focused on providing support including guidance and advice to all areas of the business with an inquisitive, positive and control conscious approach. To be successful in the role the applicant will need to adopt a proactive attitude to engaging with internal stakeholders within the business functions to ensure that the commodities being exported and imported by the business are transacted in a compliant manner, accurate records are maintained for audit and all statutory obligations are met.

Key Accountabilities

  • Day-to-day operation of the export approval and compliance process, including the preparation of commercial invoices
  • Day-to-day operation of the import clearance process
  • Completion of pre and post import/export checks and maintenance of a clearance log and export tracker to ensure that all orders are compliant with statutory regulations and appropriate evidence is collated in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with and fostering good relations within the business including but not limited to Sales, Commercial, Legal, Operations and other areas of finance in relation to the import and Export process.
  • Ensuring that all applicable products are classified for export and import in accordance with UK strategic Export Control List and UK Tariff.
  • Liaising with HMRC and Freight Forwarders regarding the import and export process.
  • Supporting the UK business with maintaining its Authorised Economic Operator (AEO-C) status
  • Supporting the business with its Brexit preparations.
  • Advising the Trade Compliance Manager of any situation liable to lead to a possible dispute or violation in relation to any compliance issue.
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance of import/export record for all the applicable business transactions.
  • Reviewing & improving business / accounting procedures through continuous improvement
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of all applicable regulations including those of the UK, EU and US.
  • Demonstrate a strong awareness of and commitment to Ethics and Compliance and the Group Business Conduct Guidelines.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of trade compliance, customs duties and experience in International trade would be preferred but not essential. Training will be provided and must have a willingness to learn ?
  • Highly PC literate - particularly of Microsoft Office Programmes e.g. Excel
  • Experience of using SAP preferred
  • Strong analytical and written skills
  • Organised self-starter with ability to plan and prioritise one's own workload
  • Highly motivated & enthusiastic with a "can do" mentality
  • Disciplined and able to work under pressure to achieve tight deadlines

? It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a requirement to acquire additional knowledge of UK and other relevant foreign export/import regulations (e.g. US EAR, ITAR) as well as SAP and other Internal Customs and Trade tools so willingness to learn and expand knowledge is essential.
