WGM Engineering have a current requirement for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the business on a full time permanent basis, the role will cover our various operations across Scotland and England on a hybrid working model working and will be based in Glasgow. The overall purpose of the role is to provide commercial support across all business streams concerning financial and contractual matters arising through the management of various contracts and projects. Offering support to the business streams you will provide advice to allow projects to be delivered on time and to budget. You will liaise with clients and external parties on commercial issues such as contract agreement of variations, claims and payments. Main duties and responsibilities Build and maintain professional relationships with both internal and external parties Prepare and send enquiries to sub-contractors inviting them to tender Seek to minimize the cost of a project and enhance value for money whilst still achieving the required standards and quality Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts Contract and sub-contract management and administration as required Certification of payment applications from subcontractors Compilation of costs for compensation events and the management of change Management of Change Control including Early Warnings and Compensation Events Assist to avoid disputes with clients, suppliers and subcontractors Prepare and process formal documentation for sub-contractor payments Preparing valuations for payment applications to the client Assisting in the compilation of commercial / contractual responses to the client and subcontractors Monitor and report on expenditure on contracts compared to budgets and forecasts Give feedback to the relevant parties with regards to contract pricing and profit and loss Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with clients and sub-contractors as required To be considered for this position you will have at least 3-5 years previous experience within a QS or Senior QS role ideally within an engineering or construction environment, you will be Degree level qualified or be a holder of a professional qualification accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret and understand contract documents, scopes of works and contract drawings and Skilled in financial cost control, value recovery and change management. Working in a client-side consultancy environment, you will play a key role in providing commercial and cost management services across the full project lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients, project managers, engineers, and contractors on complex infrastructure schemes. You will provide independent cost advice, ensure robust commercial governance, and help deliver projects that provide critical infrastructure for communities and businesses. Key Responsibilities Cost Management & Commercial Advice Develop and maintain cost plans, estimates, and budgets throughout the project lifecycle. Provide independent cost advice to clients from feasibility through to project delivery. Benchmark costs using historical data, market intelligence, and industry insights. Identify value engineering opportunities to support efficient project delivery. Procurement & Contract Strategy Support the development of procurement strategies aligned with client objectives. Prepare tender documentation including pricing schedules and bills of quantities. Manage the tender process including evaluation, clarification, negotiation, and contractor recommendation. Provide advice on appropriate contract forms and commercial structures. Post-Contract Commercial Management Administer contracts and support effective commercial governance. Assess payment applications, variations, and compensation events. Produce cost reports, financial forecasts, and cashflow projections. Support the agreement of final accounts and commercial close-out. Stakeholder & Client Engagement Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing clear and concise commercial guidance. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including project managers, designers, and engineers. Attend project and programme meetings, providing commercial updates and reporting. Build and maintain strong client relationships. Risk Management & Governance Identify commercial and contractual risks and support mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with relevant contracts, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to effective commercial governance across infrastructure programmes. Skills & Experience Essential Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, utilities, or major projects. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management processes. Experience preparing cost plans, procurement documentation, and commercial reports. Strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cost management tools (e.g. CostX). Desirable MRICS chartered status or working towards chartership. Experience within regulated utilities sectors such as water, power, fibre, or gas. Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills. Familiarity with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations in infrastructure delivery.

Maintain control of sub contractor s accounts and minimise the cost of any variations. Manage subcontracts in terms of valuation and correspondence. To carry out duties as quantity surveyor on projects as instructed. To ensure optimum commercial return is achieved for the project in their control. Prepare or assist with cost / value reconciliation reports on a monthly basis accurately reporting the forecast final financial position of the project. Prepare turnover cash flow forecasts as directed by line manager at the commencement of all projects, updating as required and recording actual valuation achieved against forecast. Quantity Surveyor - The Person You will have solid experience with either a national or regional main contractor Reside within the Bristol, Gloucester areas Demonstrable experience of delivering commercial aspects of new build projects within budget and programme Experience in Main contracting is essential Experience managing a £5m project of larger as QS Experience in both residential and commercial sectors beneficial Innovative - ability to identify better ways of doing things A good team player, someone who wants to be part of a growing business to achieve common goals.
