Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor Location: London, UK Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + benefits Sector: Infrastructure / Energy & Utilities Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent The Opportunity We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our London team, supporting the delivery of major Energy and Utilities infrastructure programmes. Working in a client-side consultancy environment, you will play a key role in providing commercial and cost management services across the full project lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients, project managers, engineers, and contractors on complex infrastructure schemes. You will provide independent cost advice, ensure robust commercial governance, and help deliver projects that provide critical infrastructure for communities and businesses. Key Responsibilities Cost Management & Commercial Advice Develop and maintain cost plans, estimates, and budgets throughout the project lifecycle. Provide independent cost advice to clients from feasibility through to project delivery. Benchmark costs using historical data, market intelligence, and industry insights. Identify value engineering opportunities to support efficient project delivery. Procurement & Contract Strategy Support the development of procurement strategies aligned with client objectives. Prepare tender documentation including pricing schedules and bills of quantities. Manage the tender process including evaluation, clarification, negotiation, and contractor recommendation. Provide advice on appropriate contract forms and commercial structures. Post-Contract Commercial Management Administer contracts and support effective commercial governance. Assess payment applications, variations, and compensation events. Produce cost reports, financial forecasts, and cashflow projections. Support the agreement of final accounts and commercial close-out. Stakeholder & Client Engagement Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing clear and concise commercial guidance. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including project managers, designers, and engineers. Attend project and programme meetings, providing commercial updates and reporting. Build and maintain strong client relationships. Risk Management & Governance Identify commercial and contractual risks and support mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with relevant contracts, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to effective commercial governance across infrastructure programmes. Skills & Experience Essential Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, utilities, or major projects. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management processes. Experience preparing cost plans, procurement documentation, and commercial reports. Strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cost management tools (e.g. CostX). Desirable MRICS chartered status or working towards chartership. Experience within regulated utilities sectors such as water, power, fibre, or gas. Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills. Familiarity with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations in infrastructure delivery.

Agree final accounts with subcontractors to maximise project margins. Ensure sub contract orders are prepared in accordance with company procedure with reference to the date given on the procurement schedules and / or in accordance with the contract programme having achieved the appropriate approvals. Maintain control of sub contractor s accounts and minimise the cost of any variations. Manage subcontracts in terms of valuation and correspondence. To carry out duties as quantity surveyor on projects as instructed. To ensure optimum commercial return is achieved for the project in their control. Prepare or assist with cost / value reconciliation reports on a monthly basis accurately reporting the forecast final financial position of the project. Prepare turnover cash flow forecasts as directed by line manager at the commencement of all projects, updating as required and recording actual valuation achieved against forecast. Quantity Surveyor - The Person You will have solid experience with either a national or regional main contractor Reside within the Bristol, Gloucester areas Demonstrable experience of delivering commercial aspects of new build projects within budget and programme Experience in Main contracting is essential Experience managing a £5m project of larger as QS Experience in both residential and commercial sectors beneficial Innovative - ability to identify better ways of doing things A good team player, someone who wants to be part of a growing business to achieve common goals. Reporting directly to the commercial director, it would best suit a confident Surveyor with 5 to 15 years' post graduate experience with reputable main contractors looking for great career prospects with a thriving firm. The opportunity; Full commercial decision-making responsibility for procurement and agreement of subcontract and client accounts on a £30m town centre development. Project-based role in Guildford, Surrey. A very competitive remuneration package including generous annual bonuses.
