Commissioning Manager - Data Centres London European Travel Client-Side Developer Are you an experienced Commissioning Manager looking to move into a genuinely client-side role where you can influence how major data centre projects are designed, commissioned and brought into operation? I'm working on behalf of an established and growing data centre developer looking to appoint a Commissioning Manager to join its London-based team. This is much more than a single-project commissioning position. You'll work across a developing portfolio of technically complex data centre projects, providing commissioning expertise from early design and pre-construction through construction, testing, handover and operational environments. Based in London, the role will involve some international travel, predominantly within Europe, giving you exposure to multiple projects, locations and delivery teams. The Opportunity You'll act as a key commissioning specialist within the wider development and delivery team, helping shape the commissioning approach across the portfolio while remaining close to live project delivery. Working alongside Design, Construction, Project Management, Commercial, Operations, contractors and external commissioning teams, you'll ensure systems are thoroughly tested, integrated and ready for reliable operation. Your responsibilities will include: Developing and implementing commissioning strategies across data centre projects Providing commissioning input during design and pre-construction, ensuring designs are practical, commissionable and maintainable Reviewing commissioning programmes, milestones, resources, interfaces and dependencies Overseeing commissioning activities through to final integrated systems testing Leading and coordinating FAT, SAT and IST activities across critical systems Reviewing commissioning plans, method statements, ITPs, test scripts and technical documentation Managing specialist commissioning agents, contractors and vendors Identifying commissioning risks and working with project teams to resolve technical and programme issues Managing defects and punch lists through to successful close-out Ensuring commissioning activities comply with relevant standards, including ASHRAE and NETA ATS Working closely with Operations to ensure a successful transition from construction into the live environment Supporting O&M documentation, training and operational readiness Capturing lessons learned and improving commissioning standards and best practice across future projects Providing technical input into system resilience, reliability and continuous improvement What I'm Looking For This role would suit an experienced commissioning professional who understands the technical demands of mission-critical environments and is comfortable operating at both strategic and project delivery level. You'll ideally bring: Strong commissioning experience within data centres or other mission-critical environments Experience working on colocation and/or hyperscale data centre projects A Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services engineering background Good understanding of critical MEP infrastructure, BMS and controls Experience overseeing complex systems commissioning and integrated testing Strong knowledge of FAT, SAT and IST processes Experience reviewing designs from a commissioning and operational perspective Good understanding of the full construction lifecycle from design and pre-construction through to handover Knowledge of international technical standards, particularly ASHRAE Confidence to challenge designs, programmes and commissioning approaches where required Strong stakeholder management and communication skills Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience Professional membership or chartership would be advantageous but isn't essential Full driving licence and willingness to undertake occasional European travel Experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, major distribution or similarly complex MEP-intensive environments may also be considered where there is strong relevant commissioning experience. Why Consider This Role? For someone coming from a contractor, consultancy or project-specific commissioning environment, this is an opportunity to move closer to the developer and asset-owner side of the industry. Rather than focusing purely on one commissioning package, you'll have visibility across a wider portfolio and the opportunity to influence commissioning strategy, design decisions, technical standards and operational readiness. You'll be joining an organisation developing complex data centre assets across multiple markets, with international exposure while remaining based in London. It's an excellent move for someone who enjoys the technical side of commissioning but wants greater involvement in the bigger picture of how data centres are developed and successfully brought into operation. By recycling the 'unrecyclable' - plastic waste materials currently sent to landfill, incineration or leaked into the environment - Mura's advanced recycling technology is contributing towards a circular economy, while circular hydrocarbons produced via Hydro-PRT significantly reduce carbon emissions from the plastics industry by replacing fossil resources in the manufacturing of new plastic. We are partnering with some of the largest global companies to scale our technology worldwide. Our ambition is for 1,500,000 tonnes of annual plastic recycling capacity in operation or development by 2032. The company is based in Teesside, UK, with offices in London and Singapore. Financial modelling - own the development, maintenance and updating of project and corporate financial models, including review and quality assurance of model outputs, to support financing and investment appraisal and strategic decision making. Opportunity evaluation and project support - evaluate new corporate and project opportunities, overseeing the preparation of financial screening reports, risk assessment and techno economic analysis. Collaborate with engineering, project and commercial & strategy teams to ensure bankability and commercial robustness of projects. Provide financial leadership to project development teams throughout the development process through FID and financial close. Senior Manager, Product Performance Benchmarking, GlobalApply: London, England: Full time: Posted Today: R24597# About Vantage Vantage powers, cools, protects and connects the technology of the world's well-known hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises. Developing and operating across North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific, Vantage has evolved data center design in innovative ways to deliver dramatic gains in reliability, efficiency and sustainability in flexible environments that can scale as quickly as the market demands. Product Department The Product team at Vantage defines and stewards our global product platform: the customer outcomes we aim to deliver, the standards and reference approaches that make delivery repeatable, and the closed-loop learning that turns each deployment into an upgrade for the next. We do this in partnership with Engineering, Delivery, Operations, Procurement, Sustainability, Sales, Site Selection, and Business Development, aligning priorities and trade-offs while preserving clear functional ownership for design execution, construction delivery, and site operations. Position Overview Vantage is building a repeatable, product-led approach to delivering hyperscale infrastructure and operating data centers on a global scale. We are hiring a Senior Manager, Product Performance Benchmarking to establish and evolve the product performance benchmarking capability at the heart of that approach. The benchmarking engine is the governed reference for our products across the full lifecycle, regions, and customer configurations, and will sit behind pricing, RFP responses, and executive reporting for a growing global portfolio. It evaluates the expected schedule, cost, and sustainability of our products across design, delivery, and operations: how long they should take to build, and what they should cost to build and to run. This is a senior individual contributor role expected to grow into team leadership for someone who combines deep benchmarking, estimating, preconstruction, and project controls experience with the commercial judgement to lead methodology, challenge conventions, and turn data into decisions. You will define what the benchmark should answer, how it is governed, how it is used in decisions, and how internal and external inputs become a durable capability. What You Will Own You will build the product performance intelligence capability behind Vantage's global data center platform. This is not a reporting role. It is a chance to define how one of the fastest-scaling infrastructure companies measures cost, schedule, sustainability, lifecycle performance, and value realization across regions, product configurations, and customer requirements. The benchmark you build will shape real decisions: how products are configured, how products translate into cost, schedule, and sustainability impacts, how trade-offs are made, where performance is improving, and where the business needs to change. You will work at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Delivery, Operations, Procurement, Sustainability, and Analytics, with visibility to senior leaders and direct influence over how Vantage becomes more repeatable, data-driven, and product-led. What You Will Do Define the governed benchmarking methodology, baseline assumptions, performance measures, and usage rules Vantage applies globally to configure, cost, schedule, approve, manage, and measure project performance across Product, Engineering, Delivery, Operations, and Sustainability. Own the benchmark roadmap across platform, product, regional baselines, configurations, and future product extensions. Translate Product, Procurement, Preconstruction, Project Controls, and Sustainability requirements into benchmark scope. Lead consultant engagement, reviewing methodology, assumptions, confidence bands, and deliverables. Own the WBS/CBS and schedule structure from a product, business-adoption, and use perspective. Govern baseline, regional variant, configuration bridge, and factor-pack logic. Partner with key stakeholders to incorporate market intelligence, supplier input, and realized cost factors into benchmark updates where appropriate. Define target audiences, provide business interpretation, and set reporting requirements for benchmark outputs to senior stakeholders, while partnering with analytics roles on dashboard build and data automation. Decide when benchmark outputs are fit for use in RFPs, ROM business cases, customer discussions, product decisions, and executive reporting. Own what decisions the benchmark enables and state clearly where confidence is insufficient. What Success Looks Like A governed product performance benchmark model exists that connects capital cost, schedule, sustainability and operational cost (energy, efficiency, maintainability) into a single governed reference with explicit methodology, confidence bands, and stated limits. Standardized KPIs and performance criteria are set, with the ability to reliably compare projects across approved variants, regions, and product versions from pre-construction through operations. Benchmark outputs are used in real decisions - RFPs, ROM business cases, customer discussions, product trade-offs, and executive reporting - under clear fitness-for-use rules. The WBS/CBS and schedule structures are adopted by Product, Procurement, Preconstruction, Project Controls, and Sustainability, and held under company change control. Baseline, regional variant, configuration bridge, and factor-pack logic is coherent and current, with refresh cycles running on a disciplined cadence. Benchmarking exists as a durable internal capability that gets better with data from each delivery project. Results inform enhancements to products, variants, and project delivery to continuously improve. Methodology, models, and refresh are owned in-house, with external inputs from consultants, market data, and suppliers integrated deliberately rather than relied upon by default. Senior stakeholders receive interpretation, not just numbers: what moved, why, and what decision it supports. What We Are Looking For Benchmarking and cost intelligence: 8-12 years in cost management, quantity surveying, preconstruction, owner's representative, project controls, infrastructure benchmarking, or equivalent capital-project performance role. Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered. Capital project modeling: Demonstrated experience building or governing cost, schedule, or TCO models for complex capital programs, including unit rates, quantities, escalation, regional factors, configuration deltas, and confidence ranges. Lifecycle performance orientation: Ability to connect capital cost, schedule, energy, operational cost, maintainability, and sustainability factors into a decision-ready view of product performance. Continuous learning: Experience comparing benchmarks to actual delivery outcomes and translating variance into actionable recommendations for design, procurement, delivery, or product roadmap decisions. Commercial decision support: Proven ability to use benchmarking outputs to inform RFPs, ROM business cases, customer discussions, pricing, procurement strategy, or executive trade-off decisions. Governance and adoption: Experience establishing standards, methodologies, or controls that multiple functions or regions were expected to adopt. Consultant and stakeholder leadership: Credibility to challenge external consultants, internal customers, and senior stakeholders on assumptions, methodology, and fitness for use. Data partnership: Working knowledge of structured data, reporting requirements, dashboards, or analytics workflows, with ability to partner with data teams without needing to personally own BI engineering. Communication: Ability to explain assumptions, movement, confidence levels, limits, and recommended decisions clearly to technical, commercial, and executive audiences. Preferred Experience with capital projects, construction, infrastructure, data centers, utilities, natural resources, or other mission critical domains, particularly in estimating, cost control, or owner's representative environments. Experience building a benchmarking or cost-intelligence capability from scratch, not just operating an established PMO or cost function. Track record integrating operational and energy costs into capital benchmarking. Experience influencing pricing, bid, or investment decisions with benchmark data at executive levels. Experience using early design studies, spatial test fits, and configuration comparisons to quantify how site, layout, product, or customer-driven choices affect benchmarked cost, schedule, and lifecycle performance. Exposure to structured data environments, cost databases, estimating platforms, project controls, and BI tools; working alongside data teams to productize a model. Multi-region or global portfolio experience in procurement, supplier intelligence, benchmarking, or should-cost modeling including normalization of currency, tax/local conditions, regulations, and supply chain factors. Chartered status (for example MRICS) or equivalent professional standing. operate with No Ego and No Arrogance. We work to build each other up and support one another, appreciating each other's strengths and respecting each other's weaknesses. We find joy in our work and each other, actively seeking opportunities to inject fun into what we do. Our hard and efficient work is rewarded with an above market total compensation package.
