Allen Lane Interim & Permanent Recruitment
CIPD - Financial Controller
Allen Lane Interim & Permanent Recruitment
CIPD is the professional body for HR and people development. We champion better work and working lives and support a global community of people professionals to make a positive difference to organisations and the people who work within them. We are looking for a Financial Controller to join us at an important time for CIPD and our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Director and managing four direct reports, you will take responsibility for financial control across the organisation and our international entities. There is a lot happening at CIPD. We are changing some of our core systems, including those supporting our membership and qualifications, and we want to use this as an opportunity to improve the way Finance works across the organisation. The Financial Controller will be central to this. You will lead on financial controls, statutory reporting and audit, treasury, cash management and the integrity of our balance sheet and ledgers. Just as importantly, we want you to look at how we do things today and help us make them better - strengthening processes, improving controls and making sure we get the most from our systems (Netsuite and Salesforce). This is a hands-on role. We aren't looking for someone who wants to manage from a distance. You will need to be comfortable getting into the detail, understanding where something isn't working and seeing it through to resolution. At the same time, you'll lead and develop a team of eight, helping them take greater ownership and continue to raise standards across the function. You will also work closely with the Head of FP&A and colleagues across CIPD. A big part of the role will be building good relationships outside Finance and helping people understand why strong financial management matters. About you You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of working in a complex organisation. You'll have a good grounding in financial control and statutory reporting, but we're particularly interested in people who have improved things rather than simply maintained them. You may have strengthened a control environment, improved a year-end process, introduced better balance sheet disciplines, supported a finance system implementation or redesigned financial processes. You'll understand what good looks like and be able to bring people with you when things need to change. You'll also be an experienced people manager. We want someone who enjoys developing a team, sets clear expectations and is prepared to roll their sleeves up when needed. Experience of working across multiple entities or international operations would be valuable, as would experience of NetSuite, Salesforce or finance transformation. Why join CIPD? This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to have a genuine influence on a finance function. There is already a clear direction of travel, but there is plenty still to do. You'll have the backing of the Finance Director to challenge how things are done, improve processes and controls and help develop a finance function that is fit for the future. And you'll be doing that within an organisation with a clear purpose. The work CIPD does ultimately comes back to improving people's experience of work. As Financial Controller, you will make sure we have the strong financial management, controls and systems needed to support that work. For someone who enjoys getting the detail right, developing people and making things better, there is a lot to get stuck into. We reserve the right to close the process early and, as such, an early application is highly recommended.

Interim Finance Transformation Partner
Finova
Interim Finance Transformation Partner (12 Month FTC) (London - Hybrid) About Finova Finova is the UK's leading lending and savings technology provider, supporting one in every five mortgages nationwide. Our agile, cloud-native solutions enable over 60 banks, building societies, specialist lenders, equity release providers and a network of 2,400+ brokers to stay ahead in a competitive market. Built on open architecture and backed by deep industry expertise, our platform is designed to scale. Each year, we process over £50 billion in loans, manage nearly £50 billion in savings, and support the digital servicing of more than 650,000 UK borrower accounts. Be part of a team that's driving innovation, enabling growth and shaping the future of UK lending. For Lenders Finova offers a flexible, modular technology suite designed to help lenders move faster, scale efficiently and deliver standout digital experiences. Financial Institutions use Finova to launch products faster, process applications up to 50% more efficiently and reduce operational costs - all while staying fully compliant in a fast-moving market. About the Role: Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a 12 month FTC role created to redesign and embed the core operational processes that keep finance running - starting with accounts receivable, then accounts payable and month-end close. Finova has grown quickly, and our finance processes need to catch up with the scale and complexity of the business. We have strong systems in place - NetSuite, HubSpot, Kantata and Pivot - but they are not yet working as hard for us as they could, and too much still depends on manual effort and individual knowledge stemming from fragmented processes and data quality issues. This is a hands-on role, not an advisory one. You will be expected to step into the processes and run them yourself while you redesign them and work with other areas of the business to clean the data inputs, then train and coach the permanent team to take them on. Success is measured not by what you recommend, but by what is still working three months after you leave. We take continuous improvement seriously. Everyone in finance has access to Claude and Gemini, and we actively encourage using them to take the grind out of the work. We also run Finance Labs: two to three hours of protected time every week, dedicated to improving our own processes rather than just running them. About you: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable experience delivering finance change and transformation - ideally in a fast-growing SME, tech or SaaS environment. A genuine doer. You are as comfortable clearing an AR ledger or running a close yourself as you are designing the process that replaces it. This role will involve rolling up your sleeves, and we are explicit about that. Systems capable, not just systems literate. You have configured a finance system rather than only used one - building workflows, automations and reporting - and have taken at least one finance system implementation or migration live end to end. NetSuite experience is a strong advantage. Data-driven mindset. You are naturally analytical and curious about data, with a strong desire to understand the underlying dataflows to drive process improvement and smarter decision-making. Practical with AI. You can give worked examples of using AI tools to take real work out of a finance function - reconciliations, GL coding, query handling, reporting - and quantify what it saved. Stakeholder influence beyond finance. Much of what needs to change sits with Sales, Delivery and Operations. You can build the relationships and make the case that gets other teams to change how they work, without formal authority over them. A coach and enabler. You enjoy building capability in others, and you can support hiring, training and upskilling so the team is ready to own the new ways of working. Curious by default. You ask why a process exists before you optimise it, and you are drawn to problems rather than away from them. Strong Excel / Google Sheets and data manipulation skills as a baseline, for the periods where the systems are not yet doing the work. What will you be doing? Redesign and streamline core finance processes, beginning with accounts receivable - billing accuracy, collections and credit control - then accounts payable and the month-end close and reconciliation cycle. Run the processes as you improve them. Step in to perform the work directly where needed, so that improvements are grounded in how things actually operate rather than how they are documented. Get the systems doing the work. Move manual and offline steps into NetSuite and our wider stack (HubSpot, Kantata, Pivot), reducing spreadsheet dependency and reliance on individual knowledge. Shorten and stabilise the month-end close, improving both the timetable and the reliability of what comes out of it. Build the team that inherits the work. Support recruitment for permanent roles, and coach and train team members so they can confidently own the new processes. (This role has no direct reports.) Document, hand over and embed. Every in-scope process should finish the contract documented, operating and owned by a named member of the permanent team. Work across the business to make change stick, partnering with teams outside finance whose ways of working affect finance outcomes, and influencing them to adopt new processes. Apply AI and automation pragmatically wherever it removes low-value effort, and share what works with the wider finance team. What We Offer: Hybrid working We operate on a hybrid model that is primarily office-based, requiring three days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder. Private medical insurance Comprehensive health cover, with the option to add your family to your plan, because your well-being matters to us. Life assurance & income protection We provide life assurance and income protection to give you peace of mind for the future Family friendly policies Our enhanced family-friendly policy goes beyond maternity and paternity leave, offering paid time off for when plans change or alternative paths to parenthood are needed. Flexible holiday package Enjoy 25 days paid holiday allowance, plus all public holidays.
