Our Team: How We Enrich Everyday Life You'll be joining Bauer Media Audio (BMA), Europe's biggest commercial audio broadcaster, connecting audiences across nine markets to the music, stories and experiences they love. Bauer Media Audio is making a significant investment in a new in house software engineering hub in Manchester. This new hub reinforces Manchester's position as a key technology centre for Bauer Media Audio, alongside its existing locations. We're creating a new engineering team to build innovative business-critical solutions that will power Bauer Media's audio platform of the future. Our team is built around squads, each aligned to a distinct value stream, with a layer of cross-squad roles - people whose expertise and support spans the whole team. Each squad will be led by a Product Manager and Lead Engineer, working in partnership and jointly accountable for their squad's work and outcomes. Squads are intentionally small - typically around five to six engineers - keeping them focused, collaborative, and able to move quickly. Our team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, scalable solutions, working closely with product and technology peers to ensure our platforms meet the evolving needs of the business and our international markets. The Difference You Will Make As a Software Engineer, you'll contribute to building the audio platform of the future at Bauer Media Audio. Working alongside senior engineers, you'll build and maintain features and services, grow your skills, and take on increasing ownership as the team scales. You will play a key role in helping to create a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment that is psychologically safe, where everyone can be their authentic selves and do their best work, every day. Your Role Build and deliver Develop and maintain features and services across the platform, taking increasing ownership as you and the team grow. Champion quality and operational excellence Apply DevOps practices and contribute to CI/CD, automation, and observability as a natural part of how you work. Write and maintain tests (unit, integration) and apply security best practices in day-to-day development. Participate in incident management rotas, providing hands-on technical support and clear communication during high-pressure situations. Support the team Work collaboratively with colleagues across experience levels - giving and receiving support, pairing, and sharing knowledge as part of a team that grows together. Play your part in growing the team - contributing to interviews and helping new engineers settle in quickly. What We're Looking For Experience of some but not necessarily all of the following: Technical capability Solid engineering experience, with the ability to work independently on features across frontend and backend - including strong problem-solving and debugging skills. Flexibility to move across front-end and back-end technologies, adapting quickly to different parts of the stack as the team and product evolve. Familiarity with our core stack - a Java Spring Boot and AWS back end, with a TypeScript/React front end - or a comparable modern stack, with the appetite to move across technologies. Exposure to Kubernetes and Kafka a plus. Knowledge of microservices, APIs, and cloud-based deployment. CI/CD, containerisation, and DevOps practices as part of how you work day to day. Security best practices applied in day-to-day development. An interest in AI-assisted development tooling and how it can improve productivity and code quality. Collaboration and communication Good communication skills - able to collaborate across disciplines and express technical ideas clearly. A constructive approach to giving and receiving feedback, and a habit of sharing knowledge with colleagues. An inclination to document your work and decisions to support the wider team. Mentor and support Support the growth of junior engineers through code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing - helping to build a team where everyone improves together. Play your part in growing the team - contributing to interviews and helping new engineers get up to speed quickly. Champion quality and operational excellence Champion DevOps practices, CI/CD, and a culture of automation and observability as a natural part of how you build. Lead on testing strategies and uphold security standards day to day. Participate in incident management rotas, providing hands-on technical support and clear communication during high-pressure situations. What We're Looking For Experience of some but not necessarily all of the following: Technical capability Solid hands-on engineering experience, with active proficiency across frontend and backend development - enough to lead by example and contribute to technical decisions. Experience with our core stack - a Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes and Kafka back end, with a TypeScript/React front end. Experience designing and building services within a microservices or domain-driven architecture - defining service boundaries and working with asynchronous, event-driven communication (e.g. via Kafka) - and an understanding of how those decisions play out once services are running in production. CI/CD, containerisation, and modern DevOps practices applied as part of everyday delivery. Security best practices embedded in day-to-day development. An interest in AI-assisted development tooling and how it can improve productivity and code quality. Collaboration and communication Experience mentoring engineers and supporting their growth, with an awareness of how to adapt your approach to different people and experience levels. Strong communication skills - able to collaborate across disciplines and articulate technical ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues. A habit of documenting decisions and sharing knowledge across the team. Industry and delivery experience Experience working in a product-led, agile software delivery environment. Incident management experience or familiarity with on-call responsibilities. Media, audio streaming, or consumer platform experience is a plus. Working Pattern and Location This is a permanent, hybrid, full-time role with an in-office presence twice a week in our Manchester hub. Like all roles in the team, this one includes participation in incident management rotas - we schedule these collaboratively, taking into account everyone's responsibilities and commitments outside of work. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to operate at the intersection of leadership and domain expertise - someone who can develop a high performing team, hold a clear point of view on where the domain needs to go, and bring others with them. Your primary outcome is a high performing, well coordinated team that consistently ships impactful work with a clear strategic direction. Alongside this, you'll own licensing discovery for the countries in your regions - understanding the regulatory requirements for new markets, working cross functionally with Legal, Compliance, and Banking Partnerships, and ensuring Sokin has a clear, evidence based view of what it takes to expand. Working closely with engineering leads, the Product Director, and senior stakeholders, you'll represent the Send domain at a leadership level - bringing a well reasoned, evidence based point of view on where we're going and why. Set clear success metrics for your domain and hold yourself and your team accountable to them. Make prioritisation calls across your squads - balancing short term delivery needs with longer term strategic bets and being clear about what you're not doing. Support the Product Director with domain level input into broader product planning, hiring, and strategic decisions. We'd love to hear from you if: You have proven experience leading a team of Product Managers - you've owned their development, coached regularly, and been honest about performance. You've owned a product domain end to end - whereby you have been accountable for the strategy, the roadmap, and the outcomes, not just the delivery. You're commercially literate and able to connect product decisions to business impact - you understand how what you build affects revenue, margins, and client outcomes. You're a clear, confident communicator - comfortable representing your domain at a senior level and able to simplify complex problems for a range of audiences. You have experience in fintech, payments, or financial services - you understand the domain and the complexity that comes with building in a regulated, fast moving environment. You're a strong cross functional operator - you build trust with engineering, design, operations, and commercial teams, and know how to get things done through others. You can hold the big picture and the detail at the same time - strategic enough to set direction, grounded enough to know when to get into the work. You're honest and direct - with your team, your peers, and your leadership. You give feedback well and create an environment where your Product Managers can do their best work. Please note, candidates will need to have the right to work in the jurisdiction that they are looking to work in.
