Software Engineer, RL Data
United States Digital Space LLC
About the role This is a senior, foundational role on a new team: you'll make architecture decisions that the rest of the team builds on and help shape what we build first. The work is hands on and varied. Some weeks you'll be deep in pipeline or infrastructure engineering; others you'll be tuning prompts until the output is good or sitting with a research team that depends on your systems and shipping the fixes they need. We are looking for experienced engineers who own outcomes end to end - down to reading transcripts, supporting users, and wrangling vendors. The company's RL Data team builds the systems that produce high quality reinforcement learning data for Claude: data collection pipelines, human feedback tooling, the execution environments RL tasks run in, and the quality assurance that keeps training data trustworthy at scale. Our goal is to make Claude great at real work - especially the work that matters most, like AI safety research and beneficial deployments of AI. (To be upfront: this is dual use work - it advances general capabilities too.) Key responsibilities Own significant parts of our stack end to end, from technical architecture through the unglamorous operational work that makes it succeed. Build data collection pipelines, read the transcripts they produce, and iterate on prompts, evals, and graders until the output is good. Develop and improve QA frameworks to catch reward hacking and ensure environment quality. Build interfaces that make collecting human data fast and painless for the people providing it. Harden execution environments - sandboxing, snapshotting, tool coverage - so tasks hold up at training scale. Embed with the teams and domain experts who use our systems day to day, and work with operations, security, and compliance partners to roll our systems out to new users and vendors. Minimum qualifications A track record of owning major projects end to end in fast paced, ambiguous environments - for example as a founder or CTO, forward deployed engineer, tech lead, founding engineer at a startup, or creator of a substantial open source project. Trusted to run key projects: you lead and inspire others, plan workstreams effectively, collaborate with cross functional stakeholders, and proactively eliminate or escalate blockers. Strong software engineering skills in at least one modern programming language - we mostly use Python and TypeScript, but care more about quickly picking up new tools than knowing our exact stack. Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and common cloud infrastructure is a plus. Effective use of AI tools in your own day to day work. Care about the societal impacts of your work. Preferred qualifications Experience with reinforcement learning on LLMs, particularly on the data side: creating evals, environments, rewards, graders, or training data. Experience helping organizations use AI more effectively, including integrating with third party tools via APIs, CLIs, and MCP servers. Strong data engineering skills: pipelines that handle large volumes reliably in production, LLM powered enrichment steps, and a focus on improving data quality. Experience shipping user facing products or internal platforms people love: interviewing users, hunting down friction, measurably improving the experience. Basic familiarity with AI safety or security research. Representative projects Take a data collection pipeline from research prototype to a production service that serves many research teams - collection, human validation, grading, and everything in between. Own the program of developing sandboxed execution environments realistic enough for long horizon, high tool use agentic tasks - and harden them so they behave correctly across millions of rollouts in a frontier training run. Bring a new data source online - from first conversation with a partner organization to data flowing into production training runs - coordinating with product, security, privacy, legal, and infrastructure teams along the way. Own the QA layer that decides which tasks make it into Claude's training: automated checks and expert review flows (a busy domain expert should be able to validate a task in under five minutes) that hold up when a frontier model learns to game them. Cut the time from 'rough task idea' to 'task in a production training run' from days to hours. You'd own the direction: figure out where the bottlenecks actually are, then automate, redesign, or delete the steps in the way. Compensation Annual Salary: $320,000 - $485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience. Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position. Location based hybrid policy: We expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. Some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas and will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa if you receive an offer. Benefits Competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space for collaboration.

Key job responsibilities - Demonstrate best practice on using equipment safely and monitor teams to ensure everyone follows the correct processes - Keep track of equipment performance through visual checks, condition-based monitoring, and preventative maintenance tasks and schedule additional servicing when required - Supervise technicians on shift to support their development and act as the first point of contact for Reliability Maintenance Engineers - Solve issues in equipment to reduce downtime for operations so they can process packages as quickly as possible - Support in finding ways to continually improve systems and standardise processes across the EU network A day in the life In every shift, you'll be leading a team to make sure everyone has the equipment they need and that it's running properly. That involves monitoring processes so that regulations and policies are followed and ensuring that preventative maintenance is carried out to increase equipment uptime. With everything you observe on your shifts, you'll suggest improvements to make our systems more efficient and productive and then implement those improvements across an EU-wide function. You'll also be monitoring processes with tools like Scada to guarantee their performance, as well as working closely with your line manager to assist with admin tasks. This role is located at one of our operational sites. You'll work shift patterns, which may include some weekends and nights. From installing automated packaging systems to overseeing the general maintenance of a site to repairing key distribution equipment, our team handles most aspects of Amazon's technical side. This includes keeping buildings legally compliant, so everyone is safe, and our sites are operating at maximum efficiency. There are lots of opportunities for progression, both within the RME team and more widely across Amazon. Everything we do focuses on reducing downtime in Amazon's crucial operations sites, so customers get their orders on time. We often work during early or late hours to carry out maintenance with minimal disruption, including night shifts. Deliveroo
Data Science Manager - Delivery Team Join us in our mission to transform the way people shop and eat, where impact, innovation and growth drive everything we do. Our Data Science organisation sits at the heart of Deliveroo, powering decision-making across product, commercial and operational teams through experimentation, causal inference and applied machine learning. We're hiring a Data Science Manager to join our Delivery team. Delivery is responsible for making sure we have the right rider supply to meet consumer demand at a local level, while maintaining speed, reliability and network efficiency. You'll lead a team focused on areas such as rider pay, incentives, supply and demand, load management and network economics. The work is highly specific to Deliveroo's marketplace and requires balancing multiple interconnected outcomes across riders, consumers and the wider delivery network. This role is based in London and sits within the wider Delivery Data Science team. You'll report to a Senior Data Science Manager and partner closely with Operations, Product, Machine Learning and Engineering teams. What You'll Be Doing You'll own the analytical direction and impact of a defined area within Delivery, while leading and developing a team of approximately 4 to 6 data scientists. The team spans a range of experience levels and is continuing to grow. Depending on scope, your team may work across areas such as: rider pay, incentives and surge pricing; rider supply and fleet sizing at a local level; balancing supply and consumer demand; load management and network performance; understanding rider behaviour, including changes in acceptance rates; using experimentation to understand how riders and the network respond to changes in pay, incentives and demand signals; improving how different operational and economic levers are used across the delivery system. You'll identify the highest-value problems, guide the team towards the right analytical approach and ensure the work leads to clear operational, product and commercial decisions. A key part of the role is applying systems thinking. Changes to pay, supply, incentives or dispatch can have knock-on effects across the network, so you'll need to reason through these interactions and support informed trade-offs. You'll work closely with stakeholders across Operations, Product, Machine Learning and Engineering, including teams closest to day to day rider and market performance. This is a hands on management role, with a meaningful portion of your time spent on direct technical contribution. Hands on work is likely to be analytical, such as investigating market changes, interpreting experiments and unblocking complex problems. What You'll Need to Thrive Our ideal candidate will bring: Experience line managing data scientists and developing high performing teams A strong background as a senior data science individual contributor Strong expertise in experimentation and causal inference The ability to reason through complex systems and understand how changes in one area affect wider network outcomes Experience translating analysis into operational, product or commercial decisions Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working with senior leaders The ability to bring structure to ambiguity, prioritise effectively and shape a clear roadmap Experience in economics, marketplaces, logistics, mobility, supply and demand, pricing or operations would be valuable, but is not essential. We're looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, can create structure where needed and can align teams around the most important problems.
