Do you thrive where strategic leadership, robust governance and organisation wide delivery meet? Then this is the role for you!

Alongside the interests and challenges of the role, we know that candidates also want to be enthused about the mission and values of the organisation they might be joining.

IStructE is a charity and the professional body for structural engineers. We have a global membership who have designed many of the world's iconic structures, as well as many of the buildings and bridges we take almost for granted in our daily lives.

Creating safer structures for the benefit of the public is at the heart of our remit, and this includes environmental sustainability with structural engineers and the Institution at the heart of the impact construction has on natural resources and climate change.

We are passionate about inclusion and work hard to help those with talent, irrespective of background, to find and develop a route into the profession. Many of our members work to support the world's most vulnerable communities, especially those living in places prone to natural hazards such as earthquakes and extreme flooding.

If working as part of a staff team of about 80 people and alongside many of our members to address these issues appeals to you, then we would love to hear from you.

The Role

The Head of Executive Office provides strategic and operational oversight across the Institution, ensuring the Chief Executive, Board, Council and President are well supported to deliver their responsibilities effectively.

This role leads the Institution's governance and compliance functions, overseeing all election and regulatory processes, whilst providing central coordination of projects through a newly established project management office. The post holder will ensure compliant governance systems, clear reporting and effective cross organisational working, alongside managing the Institution's Benevolent Fund and mentoring scheme for members.

To be shortlisted for this post, you must have:

  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations on governance (Charter status, Bye Laws, Regulations) relating to charities/not-for-profit organisations.
  • Significant experience supporting senior board and committee members, including minute taking, proofreading and working with trustees.
  • Experience in cross-organisational project oversight, tracking and reporting.

Working previously in a professional institution, membership or licensing/regulatory body environment would be advantageous.

What we can offer you:

  • 25 days' paid annual leave (rising with service) plus bank holidays and flexi leave
  • A pension scheme with up to 9% employer contributions
  • Life Insurance
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Permanent Health Insurance
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Season Ticket Loan
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Continuous Professional Development
  • Salary Progression

Working Conditions:

We are based on the edge of the city, our office is bright, modern and open plan. We are an inclusive and friendly workforce and operate a hybrid working arrangement.
