MRD Recruitment is currently recruiting a Buyer for one of our engineering clients based in Greenock.

About This Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Buyer to join a fast-paced engineering organisation, playing a critical role in supporting operational and project delivery. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services, directly contributing to production efficiency and business performance.

Working closely with engineering, production, and supply chain teams, you will act as a key link between internal stakeholders and external suppliers. This role offers the chance to influence supplier strategy, drive cost savings, and support continuous improvement initiatives within a dynamic and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and procure engineering materials, components, and services in line with project and production requirements
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to achieve best value
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing suppliers
• Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and quality standards
• Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and planning teams
• Manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement procedures
• Maintain accurate procurement records and reporting

Requirements

• Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within an engineering or manufacturing environment
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Good understanding of engineering materials and supply chains
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications (desirable)
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
