The position is within theProductDevelopment team based in Trowbridge, UK developingand optimisingtests for our novel and proprietary PoC Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) diagnostic platform, thebinxio. Working within a team of scientists and engineers in an innovative and collaborative scientific environment, you will play a key part in contributing to the creation and development of a range of applications and assays. In addition, you will playan important roleinmaintainingan efficient and professional laboratory.

This challenging role will involvedevising and leadingtacticalprojectswithin the IVD design and development process, such ascreatingand assessingnew approachesto NAAT technologies, optimisation,and integrationof NAATs into robust and reproducibleIVD products.

The Senior ScientistI will lead by example and cultivateasupportive, collaborative, and rigorous scientific culture. They will demonstratein-depth knowledge and full understanding of area of specialisation,principlesand practices within a professional discipline. They will assessunusual circumstances and use sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques toidentifycauses. They will resolve and assess a wide range of issues in creative ways and suggests variations in approach.

• Design and develop system-based nucleic acid assays
• Compose well-structured and unbiased experimental plans
• High quality execution of laboratory experiments
• Prepare technical reports summarisingproject outcomes and findings that lead into design decisions
• Optimisation of assays to meet performance requirements and ensure patient safety
• Development/preparation of quality system procedures and documentation
• Autonomous management of tactical projects
• Application of appropriate statistical tests to analyse experimental data
• Mentors junior technical staff

• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor'sdegree; or 3 years and a Master'sdegree; or 2 years and a PhD.
• Strong laboratory-based background
• Proven ability to plan and run tactical technical projects independentlyand successfully
• A logical and methodical approach to solving problems and investigations
• Multiplex PCR assay development and optimisationknowledge
• Experimental design, data analysis, and effective communication of results
• Produce and present technical data confidently and to a high quality
• Strong verbal & written communication
• Self-motivated and willing to learn
• Good organisational and time-management skills
• Attention to detail & well organised
• Experience in autonomously managing projects
• Competent in word processing, spreadsheets, statistical analysis and use of databases

• MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
• Verification and validation of equipment or products
• Working within Quality Management and Regulatory frameworks
• Industrial NAAT IVD product development experience
• Experience of laboratory management, both managing laboratory staff, behavioural practice within a laboratoryand equipment servicing etc.
• Experience mentoring junior staff membersin technical experiments
