Job Description

Optometrist - Independent Group Devon Coast

Full / Part-Time Up to £68,000+ DOE Relocation Support Available

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an Optometrist to join a long-established, proudly independent optical group based across the beautiful East Devon coastline.

With over 40 years of heritage, this group has built a reputation for delivering truly personalised eye care, where clinical quality, time with patients, and continuity of care are at the heart of everything they do.

This is a role for an Optometrist who wants to step away from volume-driven testing and into a practice where you can genuinely practice optics the way it should be done.

Why This Role Stands Out

Unlike many high-street environments, the independent offers:

Choice-led eye examinations - patients can opt for more in-depth testing depending on their needs A premium, unhurried clinical approach with time to fully assess and explain outcomes A strong focus on long-term patient relationships, not transactional care A community feel, with loyal returning patients and familiar faces You're not just testing eyes here - you're becoming a trusted clinician within the community.

The Role

You'll work across a small group of well-established practices in:

Axminster Sidmouth Seaton Budleigh Salterton Each practice offers a calm, welcoming environment, designed to make both patients and clinicians feel at ease - even down to offering patients a warm drink while they wait.

Your day-to-day will include:

Delivering comprehensive eye examinations tailored to each patient Offering both standard and enhanced/premium eye tests Interpreting advanced imaging and clinical findings Building ongoing patient relationships and continuity of care Working closely with an experienced dispensing team to deliver the best outcomes

Clinical Freedom & Equipment

This is where the role really differentiates itself.

You'll have access to:

OCT (3D imaging technology) allowing deeper retinal analysis and earlier detection of pathology Retinal photography for ongoing monitoring and patient education Full IOP checks and comprehensive health screening as standard in enhanced tests The setup allows you to:

Spend more time explaining findings to patients Take a proactive approach to eye health Develop your interest in clinical specialisms and enhanced services

Dispensing & Product Offering

You'll be supported by a knowledgeable team and work with:

Individually tailored lens solutions, including premium progressive lenses designed around lifestyle needs High-quality coatings (e.g. blue light filtering, anti-reflection, UV protection) A carefully curated frame selection, including independent and designer brands The emphasis is on solution-based dispensing, not hard selling.

The Environment

True independent practice culture Close-knit teams with low staff turnover Supportive directors and experienced colleagues Opportunity to shape how you practice clinically You'll be part of a business that genuinely values:

Quality over quantity Patient experience over sales targets Long-term development over short-term KPIs

What's on Offer

Salary up to £68,000+ (DOE) Performance-related bonus Relocation support available Paid GOC & professional fees Generous holiday allowance No Sundays or Bank Holidays Ongoing CPD and clinical development

This role is ideal for:

An Optometrist who wants more time with patients Someone who values clinical autonomy and independence A clinician interested in enhanced services and deeper diagnostics Newly qualified Optoms wanting proper support, or experienced Optoms looking to step away from high-volume testing

Located across the Devon coastline, this role offers:

Beautiful seaside towns A slower, more relaxed pace of life Strong sense of community Easy access to countryside and coastal living
