SEN Teaching Assistant

Pioneer People are proud to be supporting a fantastic Primary School in Birmingham in their search for a dedicated and passionate, hands on SEN Teaching Assistant. This position would be ideal for someone with a care or support worker background due to the needs of the child.

The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely 1-1 with a KS1 / KS2 student with Autism (ASD), and speech & communication difficulties. Your role will be to build a strong relationship and provide care and support during activities to ensure safety.

Key Responsibilities for a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 for a child or children with Autism and ADHD
  • Support pupils with communication difficulties, including use of visual aids and alternative communication techniques.
  • Implement behaviour regulation strategies that encourage positive engagement.
  • De-escalate and provide care and support during daily activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality provision.
  • Foster a nurturing, inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.

What We re Looking For:

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN (ADHD, ASD, speech & language difficulties).
  • A pro-active and hands on approach to supporting children 1-1
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies such as visual timetables, Makaton, or PECS is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for making a difference in young people s lives.
  • Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant
