Assistant Planner

Location: Reading

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well respected consultancy in their search for an Assistant Planner to join their Reading office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career planning professional to develop their experience within a well-regarded consultancy, working across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, and mixed-use development projects.



The Role

As an Assistant Planner, you will support senior colleagues in delivering planning advice and managing applications across a range of schemes. You will gain hands-on experience throughout the full planning process, from site appraisals and research to submission and negotiation.



Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals

  • Undertaking site appraisals and planning policy research

  • Reviewing Local Plans and development frameworks

  • Drafting Planning Statements and supporting documents

  • Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and external consultants

  • Attending site visits and client meetings where required

  • Monitoring changes in planning legislation and policy



Candidate Requirements

  • RTPI-accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline

  • Working towards MRTPI Chartership (or willingness to do so)

  • Previous planning experience (placement or professional) desirable

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proactive, organised, and keen to develop professionally
