Principal Design Engineer

An experienced Principal Design Engineer. This role will suit an individual looking for an opportunity to develop their career within a fast-paced organisation at the cutting edge of engine design and development.

Principal Design Engineer Role:

Working within a dynamic engineering-focused team, you will be accountable for the day-to-day design engineering activities of a team. The role will vary from full engine NPI programmes to smaller sprint programmes or current product support activities.

You will need to support and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, plan and manage the workload of the team and integrate with the wider project team to ensure timescales are met. You will offer technical guidance and direction, provide mentorship and leadership, contribute to process development and the overall direction of the team.

Principal Design Engineer Requirements:

• In addition to a passion for engineering, experience of delivery, and a desire to be hands-on with projects from concept to completion, the candidates will:
• Have a degree in an associated mechanical engineering discipline, with a sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles (showing an attention to detail, and being data driven).
• Be an expert in CAD, (Siemens NX) or similar CAD system.
• Be experienced in design of a variety of engines/engine components preferably medium duty diesel.
• Have excellent people skills and experience of leading teams.
• Be proficient in design and calculations of components such as, Camshaft design, Bearing sizing, Bolted joints, Gasket loads, Belt drive system sizing, and general tolerance stacks.
• Have excellent communication skills and experience of presenting and producing technical documentation.
• Have a good grasp of analysis, FEA, CFD and combustion simulation packages in terms of working with the team to understand, iterate and improve designs.
• You will be proficient in detailing and applying GD&T with the ability to check designs and drawings.
• Be able to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
