A well-established and highly regarded Criminal Defence practise in South Yorkshire is seeking an experienced solicitor to join its team as part of ongoing growth and succession planning.
Known for handling serious and complex criminal cases, the firm represents clients at police stations, Magistrates Courts, and Crown Courts across the region. The team is recognised for its extensive expertise, collaborative ethos, and dedication to delivering outstanding criminal defence.
About the Team
You will join one of South Yorkshire s most experienced criminal defence teams, founded on decades of expertise and a strong culture of professional development.
The department currently comprises:
- Four highly experienced advocates with over 50 years combined PQE
- Two skilled litigators managing complex case preparation
- One Legal Executive qualifying this year
- One Trainee Solicitor

The Role 2 3 PQE Criminal Defence Solicitor
You will join a busy and varied criminal defence team, working independently on police station and Magistrates Court matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting Legal Aid representation
- Advocating in Magistrates Courts
- Representing clients at police stations, including out-of-hours duties as required
- Managing cases from instruction to resolution
- Working independently while maintaining excellent client care standards
Key Requirements
- Duty Solicitor qualification preferred
- Experience in criminal defence and Legal Aid work
- Confidence managing cases independently under pressure
- Willingness to attend police stations and courts across South Yorkshire
- Strong communication, organisational skills, and attention to detail
- A genuine commitment to long-term career development within criminal defence
