Job Description

A well-established and highly respected manufacturing business is seeking a Control Engineer to support automation, PLC systems and instrumentation across several production sites in the North of Scotland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on PLC / Automation Engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, improving control systems and working closely with engineering and production teams.

You will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems in a complex process manufacturing environment.

The Role

As a Control Engineer, you will provide specialist support for automation and instrumentation systems across multiple production facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Modifying and maintaining PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems

  • Diagnosing and resolving automation and instrumentation faults

  • Supporting automation and control projects alongside project engineers

  • Working with maintenance teams to improve control system reliability

  • Assisting technicians with instrumentation calibration and testing

  • Supporting production teams with control and instrumentation improvements

  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety and industrial control standards

This is a varied role combining day-to-day troubleshooting with longer-term improvement projects.

The Candidate

We are interested in speaking with engineers who have experience in industrial automation, PLC systems and instrumentation within a manufacturing or process environment.

You are likely to have:

  • An electrical or controls engineering background

  • Experience working with PLC control systems

  • Knowledge of HMI / SCADA systems

  • Experience with instrumentation, calibration and fault finding

  • A strong understanding of industrial automation and process control

  • Experience in manufacturing, process, food, beverage, energy or similar industries

  • A full UK driving licence

Experience with industrial communication protocols, automation networks or OT cybersecurity would be advantageous.
