Mechanical Technician Days

Our client is a global FMCG manufacturing organisation, looking to recruit an additional Mechanical Technician to join their day shift maintenance team. This hands-on role will focus on maintaining the reliability and performance of critical machinery through preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.

The Role

As a Mechanical Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability and operational efficiency across the site. You will lead and coordinate mechanical maintenance activities while supporting operational teams with troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership

  • Plan and coordinate mechanical maintenance activities across the site

  • Ensure all work aligns with safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Technical Support

  • Provide mechanical troubleshooting support to operational teams

  • Help identify and implement improvements to enhance machine reliability

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and drive key mechanical maintenance KPIs

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime

Maintenance Systems

  • Use a CMMS system to plan, manage, and record maintenance work

  • Ensure maintenance activities are accurately documented and scheduled

Contractor Coordination

  • Supervise and support external contractors working on mechanical projects

  • Ensure work is completed to the required standards, including quality checks and commissioning support

Team Development

  • Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices

  • Promote knowledge sharing and technical development within the team

Workshop & Safety Standards

  • Maintain high workshop standards and ensure adherence to health & safety procedures, including permit systems

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Completed a recognised mechanical or multi-skilled engineering apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)

  • Experience working in manufacturing, heavy industry, or process environments

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability, particularly with automated production equipment, rotating machinery, and hydraulics

  • Experience planning and organising maintenance activities while managing multiple priorities

  • Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g. SAP or similar) for maintenance planning and reporting

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to support and mentor colleagues
