THE ORGANISATION

A UK-based charitable organisation is seeking a flexible and dedicated Interim Project Accountant to support their busy finance team. They manage around 20 to 30 active projects at any given time, ranging from local initiatives to international aid. THE ROLE

The Interim Project Accountant will serve as the key finance contact for multiple projects, overseeing financial planning, tracking, and reporting. You'll support project managers with budgeting, monitor costs, prepare financial reports, and ensure compliance with funders' guidelines. Your role involves working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, contributing to audits, and helping refine financial processes. The role offers a chance to substantively influence financial controls and develop systems while supporting a small team managing a broad array of projects.

  • Partner with project teams to provide financial oversight, monitor budgets, and report on project performance
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for funders, internal management, and external auditors
  • Track project costs against budgets, investigate variances, and ensure proper coding and documentation in Sage Intacct
  • Support the development of funding proposals and financial aspects of grant applications
  • Assist with project audits, statutory accounts, and financial reconciliations
  • Help implement system improvements and provide financial training to staff

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You'll bring hands-on experience in project accounting, ideally within the charity or third sector, and be comfortable with data analysis and financial reporting tools. We seek someone proactive, flexible, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in project or charity sector finance
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Excel, and financial reporting tools
  • Knowledge of UK charity accounting principles, including restricted funds and fund management
  • Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAS) or qualified by experience
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines

ON OFFER

This contract-based role offers a starting period of 3 months with the possibility of extension or permanent placement. The organisation supports flexible working arrangements, including part-time or remote options with occasional travel to Dundee. The salary is circa £45,000, with benefits such as 33 days holiday, pension contributions, and wellness allowances, all tailored to provide a supportive working environment.
