Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Physics to lead a vibrant, intellectually ambitious department where curiosity, experimentation, and scientific thinking sit at the heart of every lesson. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire bright, inquisitive young scientists through a rich, rigorous, and forward looking Physics curriculum.

The Physics Department at Putney is a thriving community of expert teachers who share a deep passion for empowering students to question, investigate and understand the forces that shape our universe. Practical science is central to our approach, and you will have the advantage of excellent laboratories, specialist equipment, and a highly skilled technician team to bring Physics vividly to life.

From the integrated Natural Sciences course in Year 7 to AQA GCSEs and A Level Physics, our curriculum places experimental method and scientific enquiry at its core. Many of our students pursue STEM subjects at A Level, and the department has a strong record of supporting successful applications to competitive university courses, including Engineering, Natural Sciences and Physics at Oxbridge and other leading institutions.

Physics at Putney extends well beyond the classroom. Our co curricular programme includes STEM Club, Junior Physics Club, and the popular Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science Society. Sixth Form Futures Seminars and participation in national Olympiads further enrich our students' scientific journeys.

As Head of Physics, you will provide inspiring, forward thinking leadership - nurturing intellectual curiosity, championing experimental rigour and shaping a curriculum that excites and challenges students. You will guide a dynamic, collaborative team united by a commitment to Modern Scholarship and the belief that Physics should be a subject that students don't just study, but truly live.

If you are an ambitious, proactive leader with exceptional subject expertise, a passion for practical science, and a proven track record of outstanding teaching from Year 7 to Sixth Form, we would be delighted to hear from you.
