The role
South Hampstead High School is looking for a dynamic, energetic and inspirational Teacher of History to join a thriving History Department with an excellent record of academic success.
You will work with highly motivated and talented pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, delivering well-organised, engaging and challenging lessons that inspires a life-long love of the past in our students.
We are looking for a passionate subject specialist with a genuine passion for History. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers with a strong track record of success as well as well-qualified Early Career Teachers or graduates ready to begin their teaching journey in a supportive and ambitious environment.
The ability to teach Politics is essential. Candidates may have prior experience teaching Politics or be willing to develop this skill, drawing on an existing interest in the subject. Positions of departmental responsibility are also available for the right candidate.
The History Department
The History Department has strong uptake in Years 10-11 and at A Level. We focus on developing students' historical skills and their understanding of the nature of History. Extracurricular opportunities include trips to the Tower of London, Hampton Court, WWI Battlefields and bi-annual Berlin trips, plus lectures, conferences, a weekly Year 12 reading group and a Lower School history society. Staff are expected to actively participate and inspire enthusiasm for historical scholarship.
Politics is an A Level option taught by four History Department members, following the Edexcel syllabus. Lower Sixth covers the British political system and four ideologies (conservatism, socialism, liberalism and feminism), while the Upper Sixth covers global politics, governance, human rights, power and regionalism.
