Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

YMCA Lurgan is an Christian organisation, open to people of all faiths and none, which seeks to transform the lives of children, young people and families empowering them to create positive change in their lives and communities.

The main purpose of the Chief Executive role is

  • to provide vision and strategic leadership to the organisation;
  • to support and motivate teams of staff and volunteers to deliver our funded services and programmes, and
  • to identify, develop and implement new areas of service consistent with the YMCA's mission and resources.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Provide visionary leadership that aligns with the ethos, mission, and values of YMCA Lurgan.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Trustees to ensure the long-term sustainability and impact of the organisation.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and service development to meet the needs of the wider Lurgan community.
  • Ensure alignment of operational activities with the organisation's objectives and charitable purpose.

2. Service Provision

  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality programmes and services that support young people and the wider community.
  • Ensure that all activities uphold the Christian faith-based principles of the organisation while being inclusive and accessible to all.
  • Monitor and evaluate service provision to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Develop partnerships with external agencies, faith-based groups, and statutory bodies to enhance service delivery.

3. People Management

  • Provide effective leadership, motivation, and support to staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence, promoting a healthy working environment.
  • Ensure appropriate recruitment, training, and development opportunities to build a skilled and committed workforce.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive working environment in line with safeguarding employment best practice.

4. Financial Management

  • Work with the Board of Management to develop and manage the organisation's budget, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
  • Identify and secure funding through grants, fundraising, and other income-generating opportunities.
  • Oversee financial controls, compliance, and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Ensure effective resource allocation to maximise the impact of the organisation's work.
  • To ensure that YMCA Lurgan complies with the requirements of any bodies from which it receives funds and meets all its legal responsibilities.

5. Representation

  • Develop partnerships with statutory, voluntary, commercial, church, community and other organisations, whilst promoting the work of the organisation
  • Explore opportunities for working effectively with other YMCAs and to be involved in the wider YMCA movement, national and international.

6. General

  • To ensure that the organisation operates within legal requirements with regard to the Charities Act, Company Law, Employment Law, Health and Safety, and other relevant legislation to ensure that statutory reporting requirements (annual report, audited accounts, changes in directors, etc.) are complied with.
  • To measure the effectiveness of the organisation through monitoring and impact reporting, ensuring that quality assurance systems are developed and implemented.

A flexible attitude to the provision of services will be encouraged. A creative and innovative ability will be required to meet the stated objectives. The Job Description will be subject to review in the light of changing circumstances and is not intended to be rigid or inflexible but should be regarded as providing guidelines within which the individual works.
