Job Description

Quick facts

up to £750 per day PAYE Employment Lawyer Surrey / remote neg 10-12 months

Are you a qualified employment lawyer ready to step into a senior in-house role with real ownership?

Have you advised on complex employment matters across multiple jurisdictions?

Do you have experience working with works councils or unions?

Who this role suits

This role suits an experienced employment lawyer who enjoys operating at pace in a complex, international environment. You will be comfortable taking ownership, exercising judgement, and partnering closely with senior People and HR stakeholders.

This is not a development role. You will step into an established in-house employment function and be trusted to operate independently from day one. If you are confident navigating ambiguity, balancing risk with commercial reality, and advising across borders, this will suit you.

The opportunity

You will join a well-established in-house employment legal team within a globally recognised technology and digital entertainment business operating across Europe and beyond.

This maternity cover offers genuine international scope, meaningful stakeholder exposure, and responsibility for high-impact employment issues across multiple jurisdictions.

What you will be doing

You will provide front-line and strategic in-house employment law and employment counsel support across the full employee lifecycle, working closely with People Experience and HR partners on complex employee relations (ER) issues.

Your remit will include:

  • Advising on performance management, exits, investigations, and discrimination matters
  • Supporting collective processes, including union and works council engagement
  • Advising on cross-border employment issues and liaising with external counsel
  • Supporting employment aspects of restructuring, organisational change and transactions
  • Partnering with privacy specialists on employee data matters

Close collaboration with the global employment legal team is central to the role.

Essential requirements
  • Qualified lawyer in the UK or another relevant European jurisdiction
  • Significant in-house employment law experience
  • Experience advising in unionised and/or works council environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and commercial judgement
  • Ability to operate in an international, matrix organisation

No sponsorship or relocation offered.
