Introduction Echo Labs is building a scientific, and technical foundation for ecological intelligence: a multimodal system to measure, model, and forecast Ecosystem Condition as a dynamic property. We are a collaborative and interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers engaged in a planetary moonshot - with a public good mission, operating like a start up. We are a new Focused Research Organization (FRO) supported by Convergent Research and funded by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency to pursue high-risk, high-reward science in the public interest. About this role Echo Labs is seeking a Director of Modelling to design and build the data pipelines and modelling infrastructure that translate raw ecological signals into testable models of ecosystem condition. You will help turn ecological hypotheses into experiments, experiments into validated models, and validated models into decision-grade outputs. As we explore what is possible with new measures and representations of ecosystem state, you will be responsible for evaluating progress. You will help define success in a system that is complex to model using results that are challenging to interpret. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer and works in close partnership with the Chief Science Officer. This is a rare opportunity to architect the conceptual and technical frameworks that define how ecosystems are measured and modelled. Core Responsibilities Experiment design & strategy: Design experiments that isolate signal from noise in ecological data, and design tests that can increment progress forward when results are ambiguous. Work with the CTO to prioritize intermediate outputs, publication opportunities, and risks. Work iteratively with the CSO to test and refine modelling approaches and uncertainty quantification that can be interpreted in ecological context. Define a standardization strategy that ensures model comparability across ecosystems and geographies. Research execution: Translate ecological hypotheses from the CSO into testable ML experiments. Implement, train, and evaluate models that characterise ecosystem condition across multiple measurement modalities. This will range from implementing classic machine learning to fine-tuning modern deep learning models. Contribute to research outputs: white papers, technical documentation, and peer-reviewed publications. Maintain infrastructure: Working with a growing team under your management, you will develop and maintain the technical stack to ensure reproducible, rapid experimentation. Team and growth: Work with the leadership team to hire and lead additional engineers and data scientists. Evaluate and communicate needs and opportunities to creatively accelerate progress. Establish technical standards, code review practices, and documentation norms. Profile (You Have) 8+ years in machine learning, data engineering, or applied research with end-to-end system ownership. Track record with machine learning infrastructure and experiment tracking, model versioning, reproducible pipelines. Experience with multimodal data. At minimum two of time-series sensor data, audio/acoustic data, imagery, or geospatial/remote sensing. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and MLOps tooling. Demonstrated ability to scope problems, make architectural decisions, and deliver without close supervision. Strong scientific communication. You have the ability to explain technical choices across domains and document work for reproducibility. Highly Valued Experience Background in ecology, environmental science, Earth observation, or prior work with ecological datasets. Prior work with bioacoustic data, eDNA, or biodiversity monitoring systems. Experience hiring and managing technical teams at early-stage organizations. Contributions to open-source ML or scientific software projects. Progression In the first six months, you'll help deliver an architecture for Echo's modeling platform. Core data pipelines will be operational using previously-generated datasets. First experiments are running to explore how ecosystem condition can be characterized across dimensions of ecosystem condition defined in conjunction with the CSO and integrating feedback from expert workshops. Initial technical documentation and reproducibility standards in place. You have an idea of what first major research outputs (white papers or publications) will be and how to communicate them. Hiring plan for technical team defined. Outro We're bringing together top talent from academia, industry, and startups to build a new model for innovative R&D. We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We believe in hiring individuals based on their unique talents-not on race, color, religion, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law or our company policies. We are more than a proud Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Our goal is to foster a healthy, safe, and respectful environment where all employees are valued and treated with dignity. 145000 - 168000 GBP a year Title commensurate with experience: Senior Director / Chief Technology Officer possible. You will help turn ecological hypotheses into experiments, experiments into validated models, and validated models into decision grade outputs. This will range from implementing classic machine learning to fine tuning modern deep learning models. Contribute to research outputs: white papers, technical documentation, and peer reviewed publications. Profile (You Have) 8+ years in machine learning, data engineering, or applied research with end to end system ownership. Track record with machine learning infrastructure and experiment tracking, model versioning, reproducible pipelines. Experience with multimodal data. At minimum two of time series sensor data, audio/acoustic data, imagery, or geospatial/remote sensing. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and MLOps tooling. Demonstrated ability to scope problems, make architectural decisions, and deliver without close supervision. Strong scientific communication. You have the ability to explain technical choices across domains and document work for reproducibility. Highly Valued Experience: Background in ecology, environmental science, Earth observation, or prior work with ecological datasets. Prior work with bioacoustic data, eDNA, or biodiversity monitoring systems. Experience hiring and managing technical teams at early stage organizations. Contributions to open source ML or scientific software projects. £145,000 - £168,000 a year Title commensurate with experience: Senior Director / Chief Technology Officer possible. Bonus: Performance based Progression In the first six months, you'll help deliver an architecture for Echo's modeling platform. Core data pipelines will be operational using previously generated datasets.

The Role: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Simulation Engineer to lead the design, simulation, and optimization of precision opto mechanical systems and advanced substrate structures critical to the performance of Olix's Optical Tensor Processing Units (OTPUs). This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in mechanical design, finite element analysis (FEA), substrate stack up design, and thermo mechanical reliability. You will drive simulation led development of precision assemblies and materials that meet demanding thermal, mechanical, and reliability targets. You will collaborate closely with optical, electrical, and materials teams to ensure designs deliver outstanding stability, thermal performance, and structural integrity during manufacturing and operation. Responsibilities: Design and develop mechanical assemblies such as substrates for high performance optical and computing systems. Define and optimize substrate stack ups, balancing mechanical stability, warpage control, thermal dissipation, and integration requirements. Conduct finite element analyses (FEA) to evaluate stress, strain, warpage, and finite element analyses (FEA). Execute thermo mechanical simulations to assess material deformation, stress evolution, and structural response under varying loads and temperatures, including effects during assembly, solder reflow, and system level integration. Perform ageing and life cycle simulations to model long term material degradation, creep, fatigue, and stress relaxation over extended operational lifetimes. Lead material selection and evaluation to meet mechanical, thermal, and reliability needs - balancing CTE compatibility, stiffness, and thermal conductivity with manufacturability and cost. Apply expertise in substrate materials (ABF, BT, ceramics, and organics) to achieve optimized mechanical and thermal performance. Develop and correlate simulation models with empirical testing (e.g., thermal cycling, vibration, and temperature-humidity bias) to validate predictions and improve design accuracy. Collaborate across disciplines to co optimize substrate stack ups, thermal interfaces, and mechanical assemblies for stability and manufacturability. Interface with vendors and manufacturing partners to define mechanical specifications, tolerances, and material standards. Automate and standardize simulation workflows using ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL, ensuring consistency and efficiency. Document simulation methodologies, assumptions, and recommendations for design iteration and technical communication. Skills & Experience: 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and simulation, ideally within opto mechanical systems, electronics enclosures, or advanced materials applications. Proven expertise in substrate stack up design - understanding of material interactions, thermal mismatch, and mechanical coupling. Demonstrated proficiency in FEA and thermo mechanical modeling for complex 3D structures. Experience performing ageing simulations to assess creep, fatigue, and time dependent material behavior. Strong understanding of material properties - including CTE, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and thermal conductivity - and their impact on performance and reliability. Proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical modeling and ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL for multiphysics simulation. Experience with warpage mitigation, thermal management, and assembly level stress analysis. Familiarity with DFM/DFR principles, reliability testing, and integration process constraints. Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate simulation data into design improvements. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field; Master's or PhD preferred. Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary ranging from £95,000 - £132,000 +, depending on experience. Competitive salary and stock options, you're not just part of the journey, you will own a piece of it. Work from our HQ in King's Cross, right in the middle of London's buzzing AI scene. And we're already trusted by customers like ASOS, British Airways, BAE Systems and the NHS. We are putting together an amazing and talented team from a diverse set of backgrounds and skillsets to drive us towards our vision. Risk Ledger is built on the respect we have for one another and our users, united by our shared values and mission. Every one of us is still learning: it's how we grow as individuals. We're curious. We're ambitious. And we're humble and honest. At Risk Ledger, we aim high to find the best solutions we can and always put our users first. The Role: We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to join us for this next phase of growth; where we'll be significantly evolving our core offering, expanding internationally and diversifying into new use cases. You'll own a product area with a clear outcome (rather than a prescriptive feature list), where you'll explore the problem space, synthesise evidence and inputs to identify the right opportunities, and work with the team to solve them at pace. You'll need to be skilled at employing best-practice product development for our stage of growth, and working within real constraints like technical debt while maintaining high velocity. You'll also collaborate with the wider product team to strengthen our practice, supporting process improvements and contributing to better cross-functional ways of working with Design and Engineering. Collaborate to deliver step-changes in value. Though established and growing, we have a huge opportunity in front of us, so we're looking to deliver big step-changes rather than incremental improvements. This will need strong collaboration both within the product teams, and across functions. Improve how we work as we scale. Work alongside the rest of our Product team, Design and Engineering to improve how we collaborate cross-functionally, refining our approach to discovery and delivery, and establish patterns that work for our stage of growth. You'll have: 7+ years' commercial experience in Product Management, with significant time in early-stage B2B SaaS environments. Ideally this includes experience navigating phases of international and/or portfolio expansion, and times where you've taken high-level, ambiguous opportunity spaces, shaped, and delivered at pace. The ability to operate at different altitudes, shifting between strategic and tactical work as needed, while crafting compelling narratives that explain the "why" behind your bets. A bias for action, prioritising momentum and experimentation over perfection, with the ability to cut through ambiguity and move initiatives forward while managing risk appropriately. A results-driven mindset, focused on delivering measurable outcomes that align with strategic objectives, using qualitative and quantitative data to guide decisions and assess success. Strong stakeholder management across technical and commercial teams - able to translate between different perspectives, facilitate alignment, and build trust through clear communication and follow-through. You might have: Experience integrating LLMs or AI capabilities into products. Product ops experience - such as improving product data tooling or feedback management systems. Why you'd love it here: Hybrid working! 2x days a week including Thursday (company day). A people focused culture! We are HUGE on cross-team collaboration, and in the same vein also socialising amongst teams and departments, with a friendly open plan office to facilitate this. Regular socials to unwind and have some fun! From 'Sip and Paint' to F1 Arcades, Cricket matches, summer parties and sports days. Whether you like to get involved or not, the option is there. A dog friendly office if you have a furry friend, they are VERY welcome to join the Risk Legend community. We are striving to create a workplace where people's skills, personality and experience are recognised, promoted and valued, no matter their background. We offer equal opportunities without discrimination, and actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
