About the Role:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Chargehand professional to step into a busy production facility manufacturing building materials. This role will see you leading a team of engineers on shift, ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance and reliability of heavy plant and production machinery. You will play a key part in minimising downtime, driving safety standards and supporting continuous improvement across site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervising and coordinating day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities within a production environment
- Leading and supporting a team of engineers and contractors on shift
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs
- Fault finding on production machinery, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps and hydraulic systems
- Ensuring minimal disruption to production through efficient response to breakdowns
- Maintaining high health & safety standards and ensuring team compliance
- Supporting maintenance planning and scheduling
- Assisting with plant upgrades, installations and continuous improvement projects
- Completing maintenance documentation and reporting to management
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a production or manufacturing facility
- Strong mechanical bias with experience working on heavy plant or automated production equipment
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings and rotating equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good understanding of health & safety regulations
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Proactive, hands-on approach with strong communication and leadership skills
