Our client is a global chemical manufacturer in the Manchester area who is looking to add an EC&I Engineer to their Engineering team. This is a hands-on and varied role that combines engineering design, maintenance, safety management, and project delivery, with opportunities to contribute to plant-wide improvement initiatives.
EC&I Engineer - The Details
- Salary to £70,000
- Chartership support and fees paid
- Provide medical

- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (with some flexibility in working hours)

EC&I Engineer - Requirements
- A degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or related field)
- 510 years experience in EC&I engineering within high-hazard chemical, petrochemical, or similar heavy industry
- Strong knowledge of PLC/DCS systems, instrumentation calibration, loop checking, and functional safety
- Working knowledge of ATEX, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL and hazard studies (HAZOP, LOPA)
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it (preferred) Conduct detailed engineering design of mechanical systems and components.
EC&I Engineer Responsibilities
- Lead and develop EC&I standards (ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, functional safety) in line with legal and industry requirements
- Manage and deliver projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring on-time, on-budget execution
- Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and reliability improvements
- Ensure regulatory compliance with COMAH, IEC 61508/61511, and other safety-critical standards
- Act as the go-to authority for control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS, instrumentation) across the site
- Mentor colleagues, manage contractors, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient outcomes
- Support the Engineering Manager with budget planning and cost control (projects up to £150k)
