We're looking for a subeditor to undertake subbing tasks for daily articles and a weekly newsletter for the Filter , the Guardian's consumer shopping section which offers our readers independent product reviews, trustworthy buying advice and sustainable shopping ideas. From the best LED face masks and tips on staying warm exercising outdoors, to our How I Shop column, delving into the shopping habits of celebrities like Jo Malone and Gok Wan .

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment.

About the role

  • Subedit and publish copy for the Filter online
  • Write page furniture, working closely with the Filter's audience editor to optimise articles for digital reach
  • Add pictures and multimedia elements to content
  • Optimise content for digital reach, and assigning keywords and metadata
  • Be an enthusiastic, collaborative member of a small team and get involved with ideas and forward-planning
  • Maintain a keen interest in digital consumer journalism and ensure the team adopts digital best practice
  • Cover for the production editor, where needed

About you

  • Online subbing and production experience
  • Experience working with digital content, and expertise in using web tools
  • Understanding and knowledge of analytics, search and other measurements of audience
  • An enthusiasm for consumer journalism and how Guardian readers' needs differ from those of other consumers
  • A knowledge or understanding of consumer reviews and recommendations within a news publisher would be desirable
  • Appreciation of Guardian history and values
  • Knowledge of media law Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
