Job Description

Job Title: Industrial Gearbox Service Fitter

Location: Workshop based, with site work as required

Reporting to: Service Manager / Workshop Supervisor

Job Purpose

To service, repair, and refurbish industrial gearboxes and motors within a busy workshop environment, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to manufacturer specifications. The role requires a strong mechanical background, a flexible attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strip down and assess industrial gearboxes and motors

  • Diagnose faults and complete service and inspection job sheets

  • Clean and degrease components prior to repair and reassembly

  • Replace gears, shafts, bearings, and seals to manufacturer tolerances

  • Assemble and test gearboxes and motors following repair

  • Paint and prepare equipment for despatch

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety

  • Carry out on-site work at customer locations when required

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Proven mechanical fitting experience

  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings and instructions

  • Good computer literacy for job sheets and records

  • Flexible, can-do approach to work

  • Full driving licence

Desirable:

  • Basic electrical knowledge

  • Machining experience, including lathes, presses, and milling machines

  • Forklift licence

  • Experience working on customer sites
