We are currently seeking an experienced HGV Fleet Workshop Chargehand to join our busy workshop operation in Wellingborough. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a skilled HGV technician looking to take the next step into supervising day-to-day workshop activities while remaining actively involved in vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of HGV technicians and apprentices
- Lead daily workshop operations, allocating jobs and managing workflow
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
- Ensure vehicles are maintained in line with DVSA, MOT, and health & safety standards
- Oversee MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and compliance
- Liaise with transport management to minimise vehicle downtime
- Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and technical support to the team
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician or Workshop Supervisor/Chargehand
- Relevant qualifications (Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Knowledge of DVSA regulations and MOT standards
- Leadership experience or the confidence to step into a supervisory role
- Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively
- IRTEC qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential)
- Competitive salary of 46,750 per year
