As part of the team, you'll already know that we handle and process 750,000 tonnes of waste each year, making us the second largest waste contract in the UK. By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres. About the role We are looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our Energy Centre team and provide strong leadership within a critical operational environment. This role offers the opportunity to influence performance, drive standards, and lead teams that are central to the safe and reliable operation of the Energy Centre. Working in close partnership with the Energy Centre Technical Lead (ECTL), you will lead maintenance planning, support continuous improvement initiatives, and oversee planned outage programmes. You will play a key role in maintaining plant productivity in line with regulatory requirements, while ensuring the Energy Centre continues to operate efficiently and effectively throughout its remaining lifecycle. You will also take ownership of maintenance budgets, developing clear and accurate forecasts in collaboration with the ECTL, and ensuring all maintenance, improvement, and outage activities are delivered within agreed budgets and forecasts. Responsibilities Energy Centre Lead maintenance and outage activities to ensure high plant availability, minimal unplanned downtime, and full output through to end of life Partner with the Energy Centre Technical Lead (ECTL) to deliver commercially viable plant improvements and technical projects Own PPM strategies, contractor performance, and coordination with Asset Management to protect long term plant condition People Management Provide clear leadership, performance management, and development for all direct reports Maintain succession plans, training matrices, and team capability to support long term operational needs Foster a collaborative, accountable culture focused on safety, reliability, and results Financial Drive cost effective maintenance delivery through strong budget ownership, forecasting, and monthly financial control Identify and deliver engineering improvements that improve financial performance and operational efficiency Compliance and Control Lead safety and regulatory compliance across Maintenance, Warehouse, and contractor activities Ensure statutory compliance (including PSSR and LOLER) and governance of all maintenance and improvement works Qualifications Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop multi disciplinary teams to consistently deliver high quality operational performance Demonstrates innovative thinking, constructively challenging traditional approaches and championing the adoption of new ideas Extensive experience managing complex process operations, ideally within power generation or energy environments, with strong technical understanding of combustion, steam, and water systems Strong track record in designing, costing, and delivering large scale engineering and process improvement programmes Proven capability in developing and controlling budgets, delivering costs to plan, and analysing and addressing financial variances Experience negotiating and managing supplier and contractor performance to achieve on time, cost effective delivery Ideally hold a degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, with detailed knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory compliance (desirable) Benefits Private Medical & Life Insurance Company Pension Scheme Annual Leave Package Employee Recognition Scheme Access to Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) + Many more benefits Early application is encouraged as we will review applications throughout the advertising period and reserve the right to close the advert early.
