About Apoha At Apoha, we are building the Liquid Brain - a programmable physical sensing platform creating rich, multidimensional fingerprints of materials to unlock faster and smarter material design. Our mission is to redefine how materials are sensed, understood, and designed across industries. Why Join Us? We're Apoha, the team behind the Liquid Brain . We're pioneering Sensory Intelligence by decoding molecular behaviour. The first step in our journey to giving machines the senses they never had? Building a Liquid Brain platform capable of improving life saving drugs, by assessing the developability of antibodies earlier (those proteins our immune system makes to fight off bacteria and viruses). We're a group of scientists, engineers, and operators who've built and launched successful products at Goldman Sachs, Apple, Amazon, and published 50+ high impact research papers across biophysics, materials science, and thermodynamics-and been featured by Scientific American as one of "13 Discoveries That Could Change Everything". At Apoha, science isn't just the foundation of our product-it's woven into our every day. Whether it's a journal club over coffee, a spirited scientific discussion unravelling a complex problem, or a full company Quarter Demo Day that sparks wild new ideas, we've built a place where academic rigor meets startup energy. Our team is small, flat, and talent dense across disciplines. We gravitate towards people who are collaborative, curious, and take pride in owning their work end to end. We enjoy spirited debate, thinking way beyond the state of the art, and building products that could change how we understand biological materials-forever. We believe in the power of on site collaboration, and our UK based team works together in our London office to foster creativity, speed, and connection. Our investors include Redalpine, Acequia Capital, Seedcamp, Nucleus Capital, Plug and Play, Wilbe and others-and we're just getting started. What We Offer Competitive compensation + stock options Private health insurance Bi weekly team lunches + regular socials The rare chance to shape the DNA of a company Access to cutting edge science, a stellar team, and the chance to change the game At Apoha, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We strongly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups in tech and science. The Role At Apoha, software engineering isn't just about writing code - it's about creating the foundation for a breakthrough technology to thrive. As an engineer here, you'll help shape how the world's top scientists and researchers interact with the Liquid Brain . We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer who thrives on autonomy, ownership, and creative problem solving. This role is ideal for someone who wants to help define the architecture, culture, and best practices of a growing team - someone who's just as excited by writing clean, scalable code as they are by collaborating with scientists to bring a fundamentally new technology to life. What you'll do Own and evolve major parts of our software and hardware control stack - from architecture to implementation-ensuring reliability, performance, ease of use, and seamless operation of our Liquid Brain system. Design and build user interfaces and backend services (Next.js, Django, Postgres) that make interacting with complex hardware systems and multimodal data analysis tasks simple, intuitive, and robust. Work hands on with our hardware, using real devices to test, validate, and refine control workflows, automation logic, and system integrations. Root cause and resolve issues across the entire stack, from hardware drivers to APIs, task management, data analysis pipeline and more. Collaborate closely with hardware, scientific, and data teams to translate experimental workflows and engineering constraints into high quality product features. Help shape the engineering culture by pushing for clarity, simplicity, and technical rigor as we scale the platform. What We're Looking For Experience building software that interacts with hardware-instrument control, robotics, automation systems, lab devices, edge devices, or similar. A strong full stack engineering foundation (front end + back end + APIs + databases), with the ability to ship features end to end. Strong sense of agency, resourcefulness, and ownership is absolutely essential - you care deeply about both the what and the how. Proven experience in at least a few of the following areas - designing scalable services, cloud infrastructure, API design and implementation, database design, and front end frameworks. Curiosity for scientific workflows, new technologies, and solving problems at the intersection of software and physical systems. Bonus: exposure to Python, Django, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes and/or containerized deployments, NextJS, React - but we care more about your mindset than the exact tech stack you have previously worked on. How To Apply - Show Us What You've Got We've designed an interactive challenge to kick off the application. To get started, apply via the form & send an empty POST request to this endpoint - api/v2/external-tests/hello-apoha at the URL - We will get back to you to schedule the first technical interview with our team shortly after reviewing your submission! About You Builder at heart: You have 2+ years of experience as a software engineer (we'll level appropriately based on experience). Problem solver: A track record of sucessfully solving real human problems. High Agency: driven to solve the most important problems even if no one has told you to Iterative Development: experience in shipping MVP solutions, gathering feedback and improving solutions to solve user pain faster. Strong technical skills: adept at JavaScript and React, including performance implications in browsers. Strong communicator: clear, concise and direct. ️ Our Tech Stack Backend: Golang Frontend: TypeScript / React / Next.js Infrastructure: Terraform, AWS Containerization: Docker Database: PostgreSQL APIs: GraphQL (Hasura, Apollo) Leveling We're hiring across multiple levels. If you're earlier in your career, you'll build and ship core features with guidance. If you're more experienced, you'll take ownership of entire product areas, lead by example, and help shape the future of Flow's engineering culture. Learn About How We Think How to Build an MVP - Michael Seibel Code-first vs Product-first - Zach Lloyd Simple Made Easy - Rich Hickey (Watch the first 25 mins) ️ What We Value Speed over everything. If you go over a pothole at 20 mph, you really feel it. If you go over at 200 mph, you barely feel it. Everything we do, we need to do with urgency. This is our superpower and why we win. This is a discipline that requires effort and focus every day. Own, Downscope, ship, iterate: We work in small, fast cycles. Our philosophy is to downscope and ship. The goal is to get a v1 out today and learn from seeing it used. We work with users not at them. Execution is the sole currency by which our customers value us. This does not always mean success at the first iteration, but we must be fully committed to delivering. Fundamentals done well: Most success comes from mastering the basics. The trade off is always scope, never quality. This is why we prioritize simplicity. Doing so requires extreme clarity of thought: a talent for cutting to the essence of a problem, communicating it well and then solving it. Disagree and Commit: To move fast, we have to decide fast. That means debating ideas hard, then committing fully once a decision is made. Enjoy the climb: Climbing Everest is hard. The air thins, your body falters, and you pass those who didn't make it. But we're here to keep climbing. This is the work that will define us. Enjoy the climb. The view at the top only means something if you loved the journey getting there.
