Summary
We are seeking a skilled Technical Air Source Heat Pump Engineer (ASHP) to join our team in Bridgend. This role is vital in delivering high-quality heating and insulation services that support our mission to improve energy efficiency and comfort for our clients. The ideal candidate will contribute technical expertise and a proactive approach to our projects.
You'll work across domestic (and light commercial, if applicable) ASHP systems, helping ensure installs are completed to a high standard and then perform as designed in the real world.
Responsibilities
Commission and set up ASHP systems (mono/block and split, where applicable), including:
Weather compensation, flow temperature strategy, pump settings, zoning, DHW priorities
System flushing, filling, dosing, balancing, and performance verification
Technical diagnostics and fault-finding:
Low performance, short cycling, noise/vibration issues, freezing, sensor/control faults
Hydraulics (flow rates, airlocks, pipework restrictions), electrical faults, comms errors
Optimisation and handover
Fine-tune systems for efficiency, comfort and reliability; create clear customer handovers
Provide feedback to design/estimation for continuous improvement
Technical support
Support installation engineers with on-site and phone-based troubleshooting
Liaise with manufacturer tech support and manage warranty processes where required
Documentation
Complete commissioning sheets, photos, as-fitted notes, and service reports
Ensure compliance with relevant standards and internal QA processes
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Heating Engineer or similar role.
Strong knowledge of heating systems, plumbing, and mechanical components.
Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Valid driving license is preferred but not essential.
Good physical fitness for heavy lifting and manual tasks.
Relevant certifications or qualifications in heating or plumbing are advantageous.
Desirable (highly valued)
F-Gas (if you work on split systems / refrigerant circuits)
NVQ Level 2/3 Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent)
18th Edition / relevant electrical qualification
Unvented Hot Water (G3)
Manufacturer training/certifications (e.g., Vaillant, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Samsung, NIBE, Panasonic)
Experience with heat loss, emitter sizing, or system design (even if not your main role)
