Job Description

Commercial Catering Engineer

Salary: £38,000 £47,000 per year
Location: Midlands (Field Role)
Hours: Full-time
Reports to: Service Manager

Role Overview

We are looking for a Commercial Catering Engineer to join our growing field team across the Midlands region. You will be responsible for the service, repair, installation, and replacement of a wide range of commercial catering equipment. This includes both gas and electric appliances such as washware, combi ovens, cookers, fryers, and more.

  • Salary:Up to £47,000
  • 25 days holidayplus statutory bank holidays
  • Sick payat management discretion.
  • On-call rota:currently1 in 4, with frequency expected to reduce as the engineering team grows (only one engineer on-call at a time).
Overtime rates:
  • 1.5xstandard rate.
  • 2xafter midday on Saturday, all day Sunday, and Bank Holidays.

Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Communication
  • Plan daily work schedules to maximise customer visits at agreed appointment times.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with customers and internal staff.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
Technical Expertise
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of the operating principles of all major commercial catering equipment and effective fault-finding techniques.
  • Build a thorough understanding of technical resources and manufacturer support.
  • Stay up to date with relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain high competency in diagnostic procedures and equipment repairs.

Equipment Maintenance & Installation
  • Service and maintain commercial catering equipment in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
  • Install new equipment safely and correctly following all guidelines.
  • Apply safe working practices at all times through proper risk assessment and control measures.
Compliance & Accreditation
  • Maintain required gas qualifications and Gas Safe registration for working on gas-fired catering equipment (e.g., CCCN1, Comcat 1, 2, 3, or as applicable).
  • Ensure tools and test equipment are in good working order and calibrated as needed.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Attend training as directed to maintain and improve technical skills.
  • Manage van stock effectively and ensure correct handling/return of parts.
  • Keep the company vehicle clean, tidy, and roadworthy (refer to Employee Handbook).
  • Ensure all purchases are approved by the Service Manager and linked to a valid order number.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements#
  • Proof of electrical competency.
  • Valid ACS gas accreditations including CCCN1 or CODC1, and Comcat 1, 2, 3.
  • Clean driving license for private/light goods vehicles.
