What is the purpose of this job?

Rail Delivery Group is seeking a Senior Project Manager (fixed term contract) to lead the delivery of RDG's transformation project. This project is critical for RDG to ensure our people, processes, systems and services are transformed, where appropriate, and transition successfully into Great British Railways as part of the wider rail reform programme.

This is a high profile project with significant impact on the future of rail in Britain, requiring strong leadership, rigorous project management, and exceptional stakeholder engagement to manage complex risks and dependencies.

What can I expect to do in this job?

This isn't an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex transformation projects.
  • Ensure projects meet agreed objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and dependencies.
  • Implement robust governance and reporting processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate collaboration across multiple teams and functions.
  • Inspire and motivate project teams to achieve high performance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Co ordinate with multiple work streams and teams.
  • Deal with changes to the project as and when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails.
  • Ensure the outcomes and benefits of the project are delivered.
  • Work to the RDG Project Delivery Framework and encourage others to do so.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager who has an aptitude for the role and can demonstrate solid experience of delivering complex projects.

Specific skills and knowledge we are looking for include:
  • Proven experience delivering large scale, complex change projects.
  • Managing project scope and changes.
  • Procuring adequate resources to achieve project objectives in the required timeframe.
  • Managing risk, understanding the risk context and demonstrating a range of risk techniques.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Managing all aspects of the project to ensure overall alignment to strategic objectives.
  • Understanding interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs.
  • Highly experienced in planning and reporting.
  • Experience of working with and managing a diverse range of senior stakeholders.
  • Extensive understanding of project and programme management principles, methods and processes.
  • Familiarity with organisational transformation programmes (desirable).
  • Experience in rail sector (desirable).
