Assistant Accountant Location: North Yorkshire

Wolviston Management Services are delighted to be supporting our client in the search for an Assistant Accountant to join their established finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, part-qualified professional looking to contribute to a high-performing operation and deepen their experience across financial reporting, analysis and business partnering.
About the Role You'll play a key part in delivering accurate financial information, supporting performance reviews and informing business decisions across a busy manufacturing environment. Working closely with the wider finance team, you'll help ensure consistent best practice while providing timely reporting, insightful analysis and effective financial support to operational colleagues.
Key Responsibilities - Support the Accountant with day-to-day financial activities.
- Prepare weekly and monthly Production Evaluation & Performance Models to agreed deadlines.
- Analyse operational performance and cost drivers through variance analysis (including energy, labour and yield).
- Work collaboratively with operations teams to improve performance and efficiency.
- Monitor and validate WIP and finished goods inventory, ensuring accurate valuation and recording.
- Perform monthly stock reconciliations for steel inventory and investigate discrepancies.
- Attend weekly/monthly finance meetings, providing clear insight to support decision-making.
- Monitor and control distribution stock values in SAP.
- Produce monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support financial audits when required.
- Build a sound understanding of product costing.
- Undertake additional tasks and improvement projects as requested by the Finance Director or Plant Manager.
About You Essential: - Part-qualified accountant with experience in financial reporting and month-end processes.
- Confident preparing balance sheet reconciliations and experienced in using financial systems.
- Strong communicator, able to influence and engage with operational stakeholders.
- Excellent time-management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Office capability, particularly Excel.
- Self-motivated, organised and adaptable in a fast-moving environment.
- Positive, approachable and a strong team player.
Desirable: - Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA).
- Experience in budgeting and financial planning.
- Knowledge of SAP or similar financial systems.
- Understanding of best-practice finance processes.
