Job Description

We are looking for a Designated Safeguarding Officer to join our fantastic team. Reporting to the Head of HR, you will oversee safeguarding at Ashton Gate Stadium. Leading matchday safeguarding provision, ensuring all departmental and company DSO adhere to safeguarding requirements and best practice and managing DBS and staff welfare escalations requiring safeguarding support.

Ashton Gate Stadium is a unique sports and entertainment business with the core aim of providing integral support services to ensure the sustainability of Stephen Lansdown's sporting group of companies which includes Bristol Sport, Bristol City, Bristol Bears, Bristol Flyers Basketball and each of their respective community charities.

Your Day to Day

  • Be Ashton Gates safeguarding lead ensuring match days and large events have sufficient safeguarding cover and upskilling staff in safeguarding to be able to competently manage incidents
  • Be Ashton Gate primary point of contact for relevant industry bodies
  • Be Ashton Gate primary point of contact for local authority and LADO
  • Drive policy design and procedures for the workforce to encourage a safeguarding culture. Completing annual reviews to ensure compliance
  • Keep and oversee the collation and retention of detailed, accurate and secure written records of concerns and referrals, managing the Ashton Gate MyConcern Platform.
  • Management of safeguarding platforms and contracts
  • Work with the Head of Safety and Security to ensure that all referrals received during and post match days or events are effectively addressed
  • Oversee DBS checks for the company
  • Build and maintain links with local support agencies and companies that can support staff welfare requirements
  • Collaborate with the company DLO and HR to drive ED & I initiatives
  • Ensure all information is held on the SCR in line with Data Protection Legislation
  • Collaborate with group company or departmental DSOs as required
  • Understand EFL/PL safeguarding requirements, disseminate to, and where appropriate, implement within AGL/Flyers
  • Ensure that all staff have received safeguarding induction and training in line with their roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibility to challenge behaviour which breaches the safeguarding code of practice
  • Ensure that all staff understand the reporting and referring mechanisms for complaints in line with policy guidance
  • Be aware of any concerns ensure allegations or cases of suspected abuse are reported to the relevant agencies
  • Escalate appropriate concerns and provide safeguarding reports to the Safeguarding Board Director and wider board

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience in a safeguarding role is essential
  • Has held a position of authority in sports, education, social services or similar
  • Fully conversant with equality and safeguarding issues
  • Understand how abusers target and groom
  • Ability to work with conflict and emotionally distressing matters
  • Ability to disseminate information and delegate
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Leadership
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Well organised
  • Ability to plan ahead
  • Solid knowledge of ED & I

Why Choose Us

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days, including some match day evening or weekend work as required

Location: On site at Ashton Gate Stadium
