Interim Director of Finance

We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Finance to lead our financial operations, control framework, external reporting, and tax functions. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role plays a critical part in building strong financial foundations while driving modernisation across our finance processes.

This role can be considered as Interim 3 6 months and with a potential to become permanent.

Financial Operations & Control

• Lead all aspects of financial operations, including transactional finance, cash flow, and working capital management.
• Strengthen and embed a robust financial control environment, ensuring integrity, compliance, and scalability.
• Oversee month end, quarter end, and year end close processes, delivering accurate and timely results.

External Reporting & Compliance

• Own statutory and regulatory financial reporting (under IFRS), ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
• Manage the year end audit process, serving as the key liaison with external auditors.
• Uphold strong governance and compliance standards across all financial reporting.

Tax & External Relationships

• Oversee all tax matters (corporate, VAT, and employment taxes), ensuring effective compliance and planning.
• Manage relationships with external tax and audit partners, ensuring efficiency and alignment.
• Represent Zego externally on financial and tax matters with professionalism and credibility.

Leadership & Strategic Partnership

• Lead, develop, and inspire the finance team to achieve operational excellence.
• Partner with the CFO and wider leadership team to deliver financial insights that drive business decisions.
• Play a leading role in the ongoing finance transformation, leveraging AI and automation to build a smarter, more data driven function.

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with extensive post qualification experience in senior finance leadership.
• Strong technical accounting expertise (IFRS / UK GAAP) with a proven track record in external reporting and control.
• Experienced in managing tax, audit, and financial governance in complex, fast paced environments.
• Commercially aware, strategic, and comfortable operating in a scaling tech led business.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills - able to influence across the organisation and inspire teams.
• Experience in the motor insurance or insurtech sector is preferred but not essential.
• Passionate about innovation, transformation, and building robust financial foundations for the future.
