A leading engineering and technology company in Belfast is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to take ownership of control systems software development, integration, and optimisation across a range of innovative, high-performance projects.

This is a permanent, full-time role offering the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge environment, delivering complex software architectures for next-generation vessels and sustainable technologies.

About the Role

The Senior Control Systems Engineer will lead the full lifecycle of control systems development, from requirements gathering, simulation, and software implementation, to testing and performance evaluation. You will work with multidisciplinary teams - including mechanical, electrical, and production - to ensure control systems are robust, safe, and meet all regulatory and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of control systems software using MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow
  • Perform system-level simulations and automatic code generation for deployment to hardware
  • Integrate, calibrate, and manage sensor systems including GPS, IMUs, altimeters, and instrumentation
  • Analyse vessel performance data and support on-water test programmes
  • Develop and maintain internal best practices for control systems development
  • Ensure systems comply with regulations and company standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide leadership within the control systems function
Essential Criteria
  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • 3-5 years' experience in control systems software development, ideally in aerospace, automotive, or high-performance engineering
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simulink Coder
  • Strong knowledge of Model-Based Design methodologies and Control Theory
  • Experience with data communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, RS-485, RS-232, UDP
  • Experience in integrating and calibrating sensors
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
