Job Description

Location: Barnstone, Nottingham (NG13 9JT)
Rate: £20.28/hour (training, first 4 weeks) £25.91/hour (on shift)
Hours: Average 37 hours/week (148 hours over a 4-week shift rotation)
Contract: 6+ months (long-term sickness cover, possible extension)

We are seeking a Shift Technician to join our clients Maintenance Department at Barnstone. This role will provide critical engineering maintenance support to a 24/7 cement packing operation, working across electrical and mechanical systems.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a multi-skilled maintenance team in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Details
  • Training Period: Weeks 14, day shifts, shadowing senior technician (£20.28/hr)

  • Shift Period: Weeks 58+, full shift rotation (£25.91/hr)

  • Shift Pattern:

    • Week 1 32 hrs

    • Week 2 8 hrs

    • Week 3 48 hrs

    • Week 4 60 hrs

    • Rotating 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts (days, afternoons, nights, weekends)

  • Start Date:ASAP

Responsibilities
  • Conduct planned and reactive maintenance of cement packing plant equipment

  • Provide electrical and mechanical engineering expertise to support production

  • Diagnose and repair faults quickly and efficiently

  • Collaborate with production teams to minimise downtime

  • Maintain a strong focus on Health, Safety, and Environmental standards

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team development

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Maintenance

  • Strong mechanical maintenance experience (dual-qualified preferred)

  • Time-served craftsperson in Electrical/Process Control Engineering

  • Electrical fault-finding skills and knowledge of motors, starters, LV systems

  • Experience with Variable Speed Drives, hydraulics, pneumatics

  • Strong understanding of electrical isolation, CMMS (e.g., SAP PM)

  • Excellent teamwork, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

  • PLC knowledge (Siemens S7, Allen Bradley)

  • Process instrumentation systems experience

  • Heavy industry or cement manufacturing background

  • Cherry picker or scissor lift licence

  • IOSH or similar safety qualification
