Field Services Engineer - Copper Cabling - Cambridge
This is a field-based role requiring nationwide travel to install and support network, server, and Wi-Fi hardware, along with associated cabling, at client sites, data centres, and telephone exchanges. The position includes participation in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 46 weeks).
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations:
- Install and test network and server hardware.
- Perform site surveys for Wi-Fi/4G coverage and cabling planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve circuit/hardware faults using ServiceNow.
- Carry out hardware upgrades, re-cabling, and pre-deployment tasks.
- Provide on-site support for out-of-hours migrations and switchovers.
- Coordinate daily workload and meet SLA timelines based on ticketing and geography.
Data Centre Support:
- Maintain site access and remote hands support for colocation and internal clients.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and ITIL practices.
- Keep data centres clean and organised.
- Gain foundational knowledge of data centre operations with opportunities for progression.
Requirements:
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and capable of solo and team work.
- Experience with hand tools and working at height.
- Strong customer service skills and professional conduct.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight as needed.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Full, clean UK driving license (some travel by train/air; expenses covered).
Desirable:
- Networking, copper and fibre cabling experience.
- Hardware deployment experience.
- Prior field technician or remote hands experience.
