We are seeking an experienced fabricator with experience with oxy-fuel burning to join our clients repair team. This client is specialising in the manufacture and repair of excavator buckets and related heavy-duty attachments. The successful candidate will work with mild steel plate to fabricate components and assemblies in line with engineering drawings and quality standards. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong fabrication skills and a solid background in heavy steelwork. The oxy-fuel burning and gouging is used to remove wear parts for replacements to be fit.
Key Responsibilities:
Remove and replace wear parts on excavator buckets and associated components from mild steel, working with material thicknesses typically ranging from 8mm to 40mm.
Read and interpret technical/engineering drawings, ensuring work is carried out accurately and to specification.
Carry out plating, cutting, and forming tasks using a variety of manual and powered tools and equipment.
Ensure correct alignment, fit-up, and weld preparation of bucket components.
Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping, and PPE use in the workshop.
Conduct visual inspections and basic quality checks during and after fabrication.
Collaborate with welders, machinists, and team leaders to ensure timely and efficient production.
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven experience in heavy fabrication or plating, ideally within construction or plant equipment manufacturing.
Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
Proficient in the use of MIG/MAG welding techniques and confident working with mild steel.
Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts (desirable training can be provided).
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team under minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Fabrication & Welding / Plating / Engineering (preferred).
Overhead crane or forklift license (desirable but not essential).
