Job Title: Shop Floor Operative - Electroless Nickel Plating

Location: Walkden, Manchester, United Kingdom

Working Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Friday 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Total Weekly Hours: 40 hours

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Minimum wage to start, with potential for increase based on performance.

Job Description:

As a Shop Floor Operative, you will play a crucial role in our Electroless Nickel Plating process. Your responsibilities will include:
Surface Preparation:
Clean and prepare metal surfaces for electroless nickel plating by removing contaminants, rust, and other impurities.
Follow established procedures for cleaning and pre-treatment processes to ensure optimal adhesion of the electroless nickel coating.
Plating Operations:
Operate electroless nickel plating equipment, ensuring proper immersion, temperature, and agitation parameters.
Manage the plating process to achieve the desired thickness and uniformity of the electroless nickel coating on various substrates.
Quality Control:
Perform regular inspections of plated parts to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and troubleshoot issues related to the electroless nickel plating process, such as poor adhesion, uneven coating, or other quality defects.
Take corrective actions to resolve problems and prevent reoccurrence.
Maintenance:
Maintain and clean plating equipment regularly to prevent contamination and ensure the longevity of the machinery.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and guidelines related to the handling and disposal of plating chemicals.
Communication:
Collaborate with other team members, engineers, and quality control personnel to communicate any issues, improvements, or modifications related to the electroless nickel plating process.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about advancements in electroless nickel plating technology and techniques.
Propose and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements:
Previous experience in a manufacturing or plating environment is advantageous but not essential.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures.
Flexibility in working hours and willingness to adapt to changing demands. Shift work may be required.
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Positive attitude, reliability, and a commitment to meeting quality standards.
Forklift licence prefered but not essential.
