Job Description Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time 5 days out of 7 Salary: £9.50 per hour In your new role as Portering assistant, you will transfer patients within all areas of the Trust, using the correct equipment ie. Wheelchairs, trolleys and beds. You will also transfer medical gas cylinders across the Trust and be responsible for the security and tidiness of the medical gas storage area. You will transfer deceased patients to the mortuary and conduct the necessary procedures and protocols. You will organise linen for delivery or return to laundry and ensure correct disposal of clinical, domestic and recycling waste. You will also be responsible for the delivery/collection of specimens or pharmacy stock, x-rays and medical notes, as well as equipment or furniture to/from any location within the hospital. You will carry out a visual risk assessment of trolleys, wheelchairs etc prior to use and sanitise using designated equipment as required, reporting an safety deficiencies to your manager. You will need to undertake additional duties as required. Qualifications In order to be successful in this role you will be able to provide a customer focussed service as a significant aspect of the role will be patient care. You should have a basic knowledge of Health and Safety guidelines such as manual handling and be prepared for some heavy lifting with duties of the role. You should be a strong communicator with a good level of both written and spoken English, who can communicate sensitively with patients and their families. You will be enthusiastic, conscientious, diligent and committed, and be able to act calmly and quickly in emergencies or in the face of conflicting demands.
