Job Description

Platform Engineer

Join a global, forward thinking tech company at a pivotal moment of transformation. As they evolve their platform strategy and modernise decades of organically grown infrastructure, they're looking for a Platform Engineer to help lay the foundations for scalable, secure, and developer friendly systems.

This is a unique opportunity to design and deliver the internal platforms, tooling, and workflows that will power future growth. With over 1,000 employees worldwide and a 30 year track record of innovation, the business is now embracing a more mature DevOps mindset and you'll be instrumental in defining how things are done, not just maintaining what already exists.

The Organisation

This is a global technology company at the forefront of innovation, developing advanced solutions that integrate AI, deep learning, and next generation hardware. Their cutting edge technology is widely used worldwide, driving secure, automated processes and digital transformation on a large scale. With a strong focus on growth and platform modernisation, they're creating the foundations for the future of intelligent systems.

After decades of steady growth, the company is now shifting into a more modern, agile, and platform led approach and this is where you come in.

The Platform Engineering function is still in its early stages. You'll be the first dedicated Platform Engineer, joining a team focused on embedding DevOps thinking, modern tooling, and repeatable, secure, self service workflows across the business.

The Role

This isn't just a DevOps role. This is about laying the groundwork for long term platform excellence. You'll be designing and implementing reusable templates, automated infrastructure, developer workflows, and platform tooling that make building, testing, and deploying software faster and safer.

You'll work across Azure, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Terraform - but this isn't about sticking to the status quo. The team values curiosity and open minds: if there's a better tool, process, or approach, they want to hear it.

You'll need to be confident, collaborative, and comfortable making decisions in a greenfield environment. If you've ever wanted the chance to create the kind of platform you wish you'd inherited, this is it.

What You'll Do

Build the foundations of an internal platform that empowers teams to deploy, test, and scale with minimal friction

Develop reusable templates, automation tools, and workflows that make infrastructure easy to use and hard to misuse

Use tools like Terraform to bring consistency, traceability, and clarity to cloud infrastructure across environments

Introduce best practices for security, deployment, and operations and embedding them into the platform from day one

Replace ad hoc, manual tasks with smart automation and intuitive self service solutions

Work closely with developers and engineers to understand challenges and deliver practical, developer friendly tooling

Contribute to a culture of innovation where trial, error, and continuous improvement are part of daily life

What You'll Bring

Solid experience in a platform focused engineering role , whether in DevOps, SRE, or internal tooling

A strong grasp of cloud infrastructure, preferably Azure, but AWS or GCP experience can be considered

Proficiency in a scripting or programming language e.g. Python, Bash, or Go

Familiarity with container platforms like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes

Confidence working with modern CI CD systems and automation pipelines

Hands on experience with infrastructure as code frameworks e.g. Terraform

An understanding of monitoring, logging, and alerting practices, using tools like Datadog

A curious mindset, always looking for better ways to solve problems and improve developer experience

The confidence to lead technical direction and the humility to learn and adapt along the way

What You'll Get

You'll be joining a company that values curiosity, creativity, and people who want to make things better not just maintain the status quo. This is a 6 month fixed term contract (with the opportunity to go perm). They are offering a salary of 70,000 and they work three days a week onsite at their modern, well equipped offices in Oldham. It's a flexible, supportive environment where experimentation is encouraged, learning is part of the culture, and mistakes are seen as part of progress. Whether you're looking to grow your skills, influence platform direction, or explore new technologies, this is a place where your ideas will be heard and your impact will be visible.

If you're looking for a role where you can have real influence, work on meaningful tech, and help bring structure to a growing global platform, this is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact.
