Principal Building Physics Consultant
Location: Bristol (Hybrid)
Salary: 50,000 - 60,000 (depending on experience)
A respected and forward-thinking sustainability and engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Building Physics Consultant to join their expanding team in Bristol. With a strong reputation for delivering sustainable, low-carbon design solutions, this firm supports a wide range of innovative projects across the commercial, residential, healthcare, and education sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver advanced building performance modelling and environmental analysis across a variety of building types
- Undertake dynamic thermal modelling, daylight analysis, overheating assessments, and energy strategy reports using tools such as IES-VE or DesignBuilder
- Provide early-stage design advice to architects, engineers, and clients on passive design, fabric-first strategies, and net zero carbon pathways
- Review and sign off technical reports and modelling outputs to ensure high-quality delivery
- Act as a mentor and technical lead for junior members of the sustainability and building physics team
- Engage in business development, client presentations, and contribute to bids and proposals
Requirements:
- A degree in building physics, environmental design, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- Significant experience (typically 6+ years) in building performance modelling and environmental analysis
- Proficiency in IES-VE, DesignBuilder, or equivalent simulation software
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, Part L, TM52/TM59, and net zero frameworks (LETI, RIBA, GLA)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in client-facing roles
- Ability to lead projects independently and manage multiple deadlines
- Previous team leadership or mentoring experience is highly desirable
